Not a fan of Meta, or whatsapp, but I have to use it as it's a more universla messaging app, and RCS support in the UK for iPhones is not existant. No one I know uses imessage in the UK other than posters on here claiming they do. Making it default will maybe stop siri sending a text when I say "send a whatsapp...". Unlikley though as Siri sucks.

Siri did the only intelligent thing I've seen it do the other day and when I said "Send a message to (Contact)" it asked me "You usually use Whatsapp to contact this person, shall I use Whatsapp for (Contact) from now on?" I answered "Yes" and now it just defaults to Whatsapp for that guy.

I don't understand why anybody would use that garbage app.

"But everybody else is doing it" is not an excuse. If everybody else was jumping off a bridge, would you do it too?

F*c*book is NOT getting my contact list.

How about:

- Because everyone in your list and in your country use it
- Because 95% of people all over the world use it
- Because sometimes it's required to access all kinds of services
- Because it is a good way to communicate with your non iOS friends

Me neither. Still, one man's garbage... ;)

I would, if--*IF*--I was the last to jump.😁 In 2005, 1500 sheep jumped off a cliff and over 1000 of them survived.

Yarp. I don't use Facebook🤮 or any social media for that matter.

Then they'd get nothing but SMS and phone calls from me. Those work on every phone.

I guarantee 95% of people in the world DO NOT use it.

I can't think of a single service I've ever needed that even asked for that garbage app.

And it's not a good way to communicate with anybody.

I’m in the UK and 90% of the time I use iMessage. I only use WhatsApp for Android people, because that’s all they use. They don’t even look at their own devices’ messaging app, which isn’t like that with iMessage. I’m not sure why WhatsApp is so popular. SMS doesn’t cost anything anymore.

Why do so many people feel the need to come into an article about a feature they won’t use, to announce to everyone else that they won’t be using said feature? 🤔
Because they can

Seriously, because people are behind a keyboard at a computer/behind a phone screen/etc, they think that that entitles them to say what they otherwise wouldn't say in person

Because everybody is on it. iPhone/Android whatever you can can create groups and don't have to worry about green bubbles or images looking like they were shot on a potato.

I don't understand how this works, say someone on a landline calls me and I have WhatsApp as my default calling app, what happens here?
Since your phone knows it's a non-WhatsApp caller, it'll still go through the built-in Phone app

The app for the default for calls and messages ONLY applies to when you either long tap on a phone number somewhere or ask Siri to do so

Oh, also, when you go to select them from the contacts app, instead of just calling via the Phone app or messaging via the Messages app, it will do WhatsApp or your other messaging app of choice if you've specified others aside from the defaults

Amazing, sadly half my conversations with my GF are on whatsappp, and half through text/imessage because siri doesn't like to send whatsapps seemingly.

Everyone in Europe. Even for video calling. I've never Facetimed in my entire life. Even if someone else has an iPhone they refuse to use Messages or FaceTime. Everything is through WhatsApp.
Yeah same. I thought I was stating the obvious but even a statement like that draws laughing and disagree reactions. It’s like it offends people lol.

Personally I hate WhatsApp. And there’s a special place in hell for Zuckerberg. But there’s little point in using a different messaging service from everyone you know.

People show this kind of behavior because of a few psychological reasons like virtue signaling, seeking validation, tribalism, reactance, and negativity bias.

Often, what people say is more about boosting their self-image, feeling part of a group, or reflecting their own biases, rather than just being a straightforward response to the actual feature.
