I don't understand why we cannot make video calls using the desktop app. Seems like a major shortcoming.

Perhaps to a small extent, but it is still end to end encrypted, your messages are safe. Used with care it’s still very secure, especially compared with the only other multi platform and widely used alternative, which at this point would be standard sms.

Search „WhatsPad Chat“, it’s the First result called „Messaging for WhatsApp on iPad“ works quite well and no ads. It’s basically the web Interface from WhatsApp itself in a white label container app. I tried others before and they sucked tbh

I use watusi on my iPad with the Builds.io signing service. Closest thing to the real version I think with added tweaks but some bugs as well..

Safe in which sense? Privacy wise, its the same I suppose to the real app.
Reliability wise, its been good for me for about a month. Builds resigns it weekly so I dont have to worry about the certificate being revoked. Mind you its 20$ for a yearly subscription. Caveat is no chat backup, icloud not being supported..
