So like this?

Yes. The clickwheel would not even have to be made much smaller than it is now, because there is so much free space around it already:

Out of your mind.

Apple will never copy a MS design scheme and the click wheel is fine just the way it is.

Might as well make the entire thing square to allow for a bigger screen and keep the click wheel as big and easy to use at it's always been.

I am glad that it will never happen.

I would just like to clarify that I do not think that Apple would actually do this. I was merely pointing out that if they wanted to, it could work.

Good to know.

On another note, I still think we users should stop trying to make the iPod Classic more like the iPod Touch.

No one would want a shuffle with video playback.... right?

That's why this site is called "MacRumors". I don't think there's anything wrong with the current iPod classic. It is what it is - "Classic". If Apple had any plans to turn it into an iPod touch, it wouldn't be very "classic" would it be? I'm merely speculating about what they COULD do. I hope they keep it as is.

I hope the future of the iPod classic brings about a brighter screen, perhaps a bit higher res., a thinner case, and larger capacities across the board. Maybe even color options.

I predict that in 10 years or so, we'll see an iPod classic that's thin like the iPod touch, in gigantic capacities (flash).

The only thing that I would find very very useful is a better battery life, now it has about 3-4 real life hours of video play back, it would be great if it were 8-10 hours, so you really don't have to charge it when you are in a airplane etc, would be amazing!

Agreed. The music battery life is unreal though. I have used it for hours on end with EQs and haven't had to charge for weeks. I get to half power after 6 or 7 days.
