In common with many others, I came to the world of Apple through the iPod.
For me, it was early 2006 when I bought an iPod classic. I had heard all about them, and it was a few days before I was sent to a police state to monitor an election for two months (i.e. no chance to meet friendly locals as they'd be arrested shortly after speaking with you); so, I figured that an iPod for company would do the trick of lonely evenings (it did, too).
After the HDD on that iPod died while still under warranty a few months later, it was immediately replaced - on production of the sales receipt - without a problem, or an attempt to seek refuge in contractual small-print. This excellent customer care service impressed me, and made me a lot more open to other Apple products. Since then, I have had a number of iPods (mostly classics, some of which were prone to suffer from the classic problem of HDD failure) and one 64GB Touch, which I love and bring with me on travels abroad.
I "switched" to Apple computers in 2008, (having previously owned an Olivetti laptop, a Toshiba laptop, and a Sony Vaio, I bought myself a 15" MBP for my birthday that year. Last year, I bought a 13" MBA and - as I didn't need it - I sold the MBP this year.
