Latest rumors suggest that its been cancelled and apple is rebranding itself from 
to Doughnut and will be ceasing computer hardware to pursue Steve Jobs vision of a Post Krispy Kreme world.
Of course if that rumor turns out to be as accurate as many on this site, id say mid-late august.

Well they said fall last year for 4.2 for iPad and that was oct or nov ( I forget and CBA to check exactly). I'll be surprised if it's earlier than mid sept. I could be wrong but it's nice to be wrong and it's earlier than I think than the other way round

Some people seem to think there will be a 7th beta. So the late August hypothesis may not be possible.
I'm one of them, unfortunately. I don't expect a keynote until sometime in the last two weeks of September.
I personally believe the iPhone 5 will be announced in the next 18 days, but with a release date of 30 days after.
The reason for this is I believe there is still a fair few tweaks needed for iOS 5 but apple need a keynote since jobs has left to sure up stock value.

Errrr... Apple stock is going strong, even after Steve's departure. There's no need for any keynote.
I will reiterate, iPhone 5 will be announced at the end of September, launch in early October.

Same. There are still very basic issues in Beta 6, let alone the new stuff. Fall is Sept 22ish - Dec 22ish.
There's plenty of time for 10 betas.
just cos Fall begins on 22nd sept, doesn't mean they're releasing it on the first day of Fall, they could, but they could release it any time in that period.
at this point people seem to think that it will actually be a week or two after that date. we dont know for sure, of course, and will just have to be patient.
