if it isn't tomorrow..i would go ahead and get an iMac if you're waiting.

I'd wait until October 27th.

Yea, even maybe until Nov 3. Remember the last desktop refresh fell on the first week of March. Just a thought.

that's why i just ordered the refurb 2.93 24" iMac. I'll get it Wednesday. Leave it unopened until the 27th. If nothing comes out before then, I keep it. If something is released, I return it unopened.

If new Macs are coming out, which seems likely, it would certainly be before the holiday season, and it would make sense to strategically try to take the wind out of Microsoft's Windows 7 release be diverting as much attention as possible away from it.

I think the most effective way to do that would be to launch the Macs shortly after the official release of Windows 7, since news tends to cover the latest events and forget about what happened a few days ago (yesterday's news).

Thus, I suspect that the Mac release would be later this week (Windows 7 comes out on Tuesday), or early next week.

Windows 7 comes out Thursday.

I am hoping for tomorrow! But, I doubt it. By now we usually hear someone reporting that Apple Stores have recieved unmarked packages, either actual stock or marketing materials. I have not heard anything like that yet. And, the chatter has sure quieted down over the last week. No new information, as you usually recieve a day before a release. Still hopeful, Mac Mini for me!

There's been virtually no information. People just assuming that Apple will release something to combat Windows 7. No information about it though. I'm beginning to think nothing with iMacs will happen until after Christmas. I hope I'm wrong and it's tomorrow though!

There's been virtually no information.

I think the speculation is fueled by low inventory on certain Mac Models and notifications to supply channels not to expect restocking immediately.

There was also a rumor of production beginning on new Macs last month.

ok..

so if its tomorrow then just a mini refresh: no new designs, no quad cores...
Because if a big refresh, invitations for an event would have been sent out last week !

So i hope for next week... if quad core and/or new design, apple has some business with me :D

A month ago i would have said october, now i don't think it will be till nov or even early next year. I feel if they are going quad core then its early next year. Of course its all guess work

Now many people hope/think/bet on 20th October, and I am one of these, but in my case is because I don't want to wait no more!
I covet will be tomorrow!!!

This man speaks the truth. I too, have just checked Best Buy's website.

Let tonight be the final hour of Mac shortages.

I know, the low inventory, I know. But nothing else. Low inventory might mean they are just behind because of demand. It might not mean anything.

I'm just setting it up for not being disappointed. But I'm so hoping for new macs tomorrow

However I remember we went through the same motions when the last notebook or desktop refresh occurred I think.

So if you were Apple, had new Macs and you wanted to steal prospective customers from Microsoft and Windows 7 would you:

a) Wait until after Windows 7 was released to steal their press.
b) Release Macs just before Windows 7 was released so that customers had something new and exciting of yours to look at when they go shopping and check out Windows 7.

At first I was leaning toward "a", but "b" makes sense in my mind as well.

I'm going through the old rumors back then and it appears it was short supply notes late January, early Feb.. Then on March 2 (day before the release) Hardmac had reports of 4 new specs.

Apple is very, very good with their stock levels (at least their own, resellers usually aren't as good - I know a couple still selling aluminium 13" MacBooks, non-Pro models).

There are usually only two times when stock becomes unavailable: just after new products are announced if they underestimate the demand (e.g. the iPhone) and just before new products are announced (to purposely get rid of as much old stock as possible). If there is still "too much" old stock, then Apple often delays announcing or at least relasing new products - even if a product has to be announced (e.g. MacWorld event, which is partly why they are pulling out of those), they can delay availability for weeks.
