According to rumors, iPhone 8/Edition will be launched sept. 22, but preorders on sept 15 (a week before the 22th). Does that mean that I can preorder it early on the 15th and get it on the 22th, or will Apple send the iphones on the 22th? When do they start shipping them?

Assuming that the launch day is the 22nd, they would ship them sometime that previous week. Also assuming you got into the "first batch" of preorders, you would receive it on the 22nd.

Phones start shipping from China 1 to 2 days prior to delivery.

The shipping logistics is really quick from what I recall from a couple of years ago.

haahhaha ......

So fedex and usps will busy on that day ....

concern they know there is iphone 8 in the box

Apple will also have pre-staged stock around the USA waiting to go as well.

When I got my iPhone 5 it sat on FedEx's ramp for a week before actually being loaded on an aircraft in Louisville the day before delivery.

There are penalties the shippers incur if they deliver before the official launch date.

In the past few years Apple has shipped from multiple local warehouses and also the factory in China. All that really matters is the promise date when you place your order.

As for a phone arriving on launch day that depends on stock and getting an order in before that launch day stock sells out.

Yes, they'll have some stock before its released officially but most preorders and such most likely will be shipped from China the week before.

And you'll be able to keep track of them all via the billion or so shipping threads. You'll even be able to tell what seat your new iPhone is sitting in and who its neighbors are on the plane :D

I wonder if it's best to avoid early batches and wait a bit?

My early iPhone 6s suffered from screen leakage and a sticking home button caused by a manufacturing defect.

Sure, Apple sorted it out under warranty, but still.

Pretty much, many will go nuts like every year checking flights and locations.
Why is my iphone stuck in Alaska for 2 days?
Its too cold up there, my OLED screen might freeze:D

[doublepost=1504799305][/doublepost]I usually buy early/preorder every year.
Never had a problem with receiving a defective device.
Nothing really guarantees that later batches would be better or defect free. You could get a bad one a year later:)

Your thought correlates to my experience with my iPhone 5 and my iPhone 6+.

I think later versions benefit from the tweaking and fixes that occur over the production run. I've had my 5 replaced three times since November 2012 and each replacement has been better than the last, especially when it came to Scuffgate.

In the case of my 6+, the replacement I got in September 2015 was perfect. I was actually sorry to have to turn it in for credit when we ported out of Sprint.

That said, the one breakdown in this is my current 6s+. I ordered it on launch weekend (Saturday) and got it on Monday. The phone has been perfect with zero issues for the last two years.

Still, if I were to upgrade I'd wait until the SIM free versions were released before buying. That would be what I wanted anyway and it would be a few months after launch.

It's interesting though because everyone wants one on launch day, yet if it isn't perfect - complaints.

I've never received a defective iPhone on launch day.
I have. I just didn't know it until November 2012.

My mic was bad. My wife told me I kept dropping in and out so I finally got around to bringing it in to Apple. Their diags caught it immediately.

Me aside, you had the legions of people opening 5 to 6 or more brand new iPhone 5 boxes in store because Scuffgate and yellow screens were real.

I love my iPhone 5, but to be honest it may have been one of the more defective iPhones.

They will ship so that people start receiving them on the release date. Whether or not you are one of those people who get it on the launch day depends on the availability of the model you order and how quickly you place the order.

I see your point, but I think there will be millions of iPhone users that don't care either come preorder day. Thats the risk you take with any electronic product mass produced, some will be defective.

You've never received an Amazon Prime order late?

I will be honest with you. I converted back being over to a Prime member approximately three months ago. And I feel the customer service they give their Prime members over any regular customer is vastly different. I had a package arrive late with free two-day shipping, and they credited my account $20.00 for the inconvenience. My experiences of a Prime member have been worth the customer service alone.
