Now that summer is here (without a Touch camera) it's time to revisit this thread. I still think the Touch might receive a camera in Sept but it will be the front facing camera that's currently in the latest iPhone.

iPod touch When Dou You Think The Ipod Touch With Camera Will Debut?

Since it's almost July and I still haven't seen any half-decent rumors regarding the fourth-generation of the iPod touch, I'm going to give myself a big window so I don't get disappointed - Spring 2011. I believe that's when iOS 5 is supposed to be released, or at least previewed, so it would follow suit to release a new device to take advantage of it.
As for the camera, I think it will most definitely be on the back, probably on the top right or left corner. To the person who said it'd only be capable of video and not stills, most video cameras in handheld devices are just still cameras that takes 30 pictures per second. Since it's going so fast, that's why the resolution is usually lower. So there's no reason why it wouldn't be able to take stills.
It might just be wishful thinking for a camera on the iPod touch though. Apple will want to coerce consumers into buying their more expensive products that feature the camera, i.e. an iPhone. By not including one on the iPod touch, it would push those who really want it to just go ahead and buy an iPhone, netting Apple more money.

How does Apple make more money on the iPhone when, the Touch costs more???? (I mean unless every single person gets the 32gb iPhone, and only buys the 8g Touch) Based on your point, Apple would want us to buy more Touches. ??

Well.....I did fail to realize AT&Ts part in the equation, so I guess I stand corrected. I just want the damn thing (Touch 4g) to have the rear facing camera!! Lol
Both cameras would be nice but if it doesnt, if it has one at all, will most likely be the rear facing one.
I think the ability to see what youre filming if its not yourself is far more important, but its all up to apple.
I voted in September because it's a trend apple has. I also believe that it'll have both cameras eventually. You gotta remember apple thinks of us too. Because if we aren't happy, then we won't buy. An if we won't buy, then apple isn't happy. See? It's a circle!

I voted for September because I really want to purchase an iPod Touch and I don't want to wait another year before Gen 4 is released.

Apple may want to get more sales of these items before realeasing a new Touch. I also wonder if Apple has put all their resources in those products, and have put a new Touch on the back burner.

I took a look at the September 2010 calendar and my best guess is the iPod event to be on September 7th. Its the first Tuesday of the month. I dobut it will be on August 31st, mostly because the free ipod deal ends on the 7th.

Again, it would be stupid not to release in September, cause they would miss out on a Christmas which is obviously the biggest time of the year to sell them.If it released next Tuesday then wouldnt there be pre-orders or at least be posted on Apple's site, or am I just not getting something?
