Now how many of you that will not clean install and plan on restoring from a backup, will be restoring a backup from a beta version of iOS 5?

If they allow OTA updates, I will roll on through and not bat an eye.

If they force a new full image, I will do that and then recover from a beta backup.

If they don't allow that, I will load new iOS5 and setup as new device and start fresh.

It's whatever.

Personally, I don't believe a fresh restore provides any advantage over a restore from backup. I have always restored from backups ever since the iPhone 3G and I have never had any issues. There's no point losing all your settings, game saves, app data, etc...

Fresh start for me. Basically cause I'm jailbroken and wouldn't want all the jailbreak residue. Sure I can wait for an iOS5 jailbreak, but who am I kidding, I'm installing iOS5 the very second it releases.

I want the fresh install, but also want to keep all of my text messages. The rest of the customizations, I'll take the time to put back myself (I do this all of the time, and usually manage to find new ways that I prefer it optimized).

I believe I can update to iOS5, do a backup, save my text messages, freshly reinstall iOS5 (once a jailbreak is available), and then use something like iFile to restore the text messages to the phone. Hopefully it won't be a huge issue.

Edit: clarified the process
