so when is iPod touch 5G coming out?
The opinion of an Apple store guy I spoke to recently about an updated touch was that there won't be one!
He will have no inside info but I tend to agree with him.
All we can do is wait and see next year, but don't hold your breath.
In the meantime I will 'invest' in a 4s and put my touch on ebay.
Apple store people know nothing about what is coming; they are there to sell what's on the floor.
they said that in their post. i think the point was that someone who is deeply familiar with apple's products has this opinion, and the poster agreed.
i seem to have gathered some negative votes for my earlier comment that we are already seeing the 5g on the store shelves (isn't this a fact?), and the lack of any significant upgrade beyond the color (isn't this a fact?) suggests that we won't see anymore ipod touches (isn't this the general trend of news reports showing declining sales?).
wouldn't it make sense to merge the ipod into the iphone (this is pure speculation on my part, but i don't think it is terribly off base, even if i prefer not to see it happen)?
...maybe after the iPad and iPhone have their next upgrade cycles, we'll see an updated iPod Touch =wants to differ the models more then they currently were...
Maybe. But it's still kinda odd that they would call the touch a gaming system and then have it lag behind in terms of graphical performance.
if the "update" to the 4g was another color and a new number,
the iPod Touch is still at 4G. There has been no number change. There has been no internal electronics change. The only change that happend this fall was that you can now get it in white.
I think that's where the negative comments were coming from?
I kinda wish that we would see an update to the iPodTouch next year. I just purchased my first one back after the announcement, so I was not quite as bothered by the lack of update as others who have been waiting, but I was still very disappointed that the iPodTouch is so far behind the iPhone 4S in technology.
It might make business sense to Apple, but it is frustrating for those of us who do not need a cell phone integrated. I use a cheap pay-as-you go and am lucky if I use even 100 minutes in 3 months. I always have tons of extra minutes when it's time to buy more time. But, it's far cheaper than an AT&T or Verizon contract plan. Wow. Those plans are budget-busting.
Your post isn't rated -5 because of the 5G/4G mix-up. It's because you believe that there will NOT be an updated iPod Touch. (My previous post is -3 for that reason)yay! -5 on my post. well, you are right. it is a 4g on apple's site. various sites on the internet have been calling it a 5g. my bad.
still, my original post remains valid, i think. i doubt we will see another ipod touch, unless it is merged somehow with the phone.
i don't want to see anything like that, but it has been more than a year since the last update (despite the misleading buyer's guide), ipod sales have been plummeting, and apple has given no indication that they intend to invest more in the device (where are the rumors?).
i have a bad feeling that i am going to be stuck with this crappy camera for a long, long time![]()

The wave of the standalone media player is coming to an end. It is a cyclical thing. Specialized devices (cell phone, PDA, digicam, music player) give way to converged devices, then the pendulum swings the other way back to specialized devices. That doesn't make any sense. The iPhone already has everything the iPod touch has and more. The iPod touch is for people who don't want a phone. Or already have one and don't wish to replace it.
When a 5" iPad Nano is produced, then you'll understand the reason for the lack of a new iPod Touch.exactly, I am not willing to spend $600USD on iPhone or sign up for $90 a month 2 year contract. iPod touch and mfi is the perfect solution for me. not only I don't need contract but also comes much cheaper and has virtually unlimited minutes. I only wish that the next generation iPod touch also has a GPS and 3G - that way I woudnt have to carry 3 devices but 1. iPod touch should have gotten 3G in the very beginning and it should have been marketed as cheap iPhone or non contract iPhone.
I thinks it will be release in WWDC june 2012, what do you think keeping in mind the current situation ???I know people don´t have an exact date but.. when should it be around what month..? The Ipad 2 is coming february1st but I don´t think the Ipod touch 5G is coming out then because the Ipod toucg 4G was just realesed does anyone have in month..? prediction...?
