Knowing that there are issues with the keyboard, will you buy immediately?

I just went to various PC forums and looked at the reviews and comments on youtube of various big manufacturers. For example, lenovo forum.

If you need a new MacBook buy it, just make sure it has the memory and speed you need. If not wait.

These "should I buy or wait" threads happen all the time. Just search for "wait" and you will find many others who have or are asking the same question.

This is different from those "should I by or wait" threads. Don't recall asking this question in the thread.

I will probably wait out a few months until a slew of youtube videos and reviews are available. I'm keenly looking out for 2 things in particular - keyboard and battery life.

I expect keyboard issues will be largely addressed but I need to know how the battery life fares over the 2017 MBP. I've read Dell XPS 15 9570 has decreased battery life over the 9560 due to 2 more cores despite reduced clock speeds and I expect something similar for macbooks. It would be bad news for me to see decreased battery life over 2017 variants.

I think for battery life, we can find it out within the 2-week return period. Apple has caused us enough troubles and wasted too much of our time. Productivity has been lost and white hairs have grown. I would probably just buy it immediately and if I don't like the feel of the keyboard, return it at the end of the return period and never buy MBP from Apple again until at least TC is gone.
[doublepost=1530912636][/doublepost]I have added an option "Wait for a few months and see" for those who think that 2 months are not enough.

If they address the keyboard concerns in a humble fashion Ill consider it. I don't see anyway they could announce them without touching on that subject. I do need a quad core 13", and I want direct pipe to the processor for TB3, and better bootcamp support. A USB-A port would be great as well, along with a 1st party docking solution.

In other words, no.

Because Apple is unlikely to do any of what you request.

I have to pull the trigger soon, so when the new ones come out it's either go with what's offered or jump to windows.

Unless the keyboard design has changed, I would never buy another MBPro.

Don't want something that's likely to break? Or do you just hate the feel of the keyboard overall?

Had to return my MBPro twice for keyboard problems. Finally a refund.
Bummers man :(

Will you wait to see if the 2018 is an improvement or will you move on to a windows machine?

I'm on the fence personally, I'll wait to see what Apple does before making a decision.

On the one hand I'm absolutely itching for a new machine to work on day to day. I'm sick of my 2014 MBP :D On the other hand....issues.

Things that matter to me:
1. Price
2. Revision of keyboard (I'm ok with v3 of new keyboard so long as its crumbproof)
3. Non-touchbar options
4. 13" vs 15" (quad v hex) - price plays into this for me

If I'm happy on all fronts - shut up and take my money. If unhappy on all fronts - hello Mr Dell. If in middle - wait and see

One possible downside with the hex core is heat, dell has some throttling issues with the hex core processor. The Razer uses a vapor chamber in lieu of heat pipes which works well. Given the tight tolerances of the MBP, I'm wondering how the cooling will be.

Given the two years time, if Apple cannot make a descent keyboard for MBP 2018, it is a hint to leave the degenerated MBP line.

Thing is if I went for the hex core, I'd go for the lowest clocked chip available probably. hopefully that would be less prone to overheating than maxed chips

I have already moved to Windows but would like to go back to a MBPro and run Windows via BootCamp. My software needs requires me to have Windows and the Windows laptop, a Thinkpad P50, does quite well but love the Apple hardware. If they will reengineer their MBPro keyboard, I will come back for sure.

I do not care if Apple adds some thickness to their laptops so we get a decent keyboard. Just another sacrifice for thinness.

Hope you are well, Sir.

not buying the new one. My mid 2017 MBP is still awesome and I take it with me everyday. Runs everything I need and have no issues with the keyboard at all.

If I buy anything between sept & December, it. may be a new iPad or upgrading my iPhone.

Sure you did, but just phrased differently. You presented it about the keyboard, “...will you buy immediately?”

Oh well it drew some attention and isn’t that what these internet “discussions” are often about.

The answer to this question completely depends upon how radical the changes to the keyboard.

If all they did is slide in some membrane underneath there to try to keep stuff from getting in there it’s not enough for me.

I want to see laptops with a completely new keyboard switch design or at the minimum a large change to the butterfly design.

Or…

My favorite plan is go back to scissors like in the magic keyboard and basically put that keyboard in there.

Fingers crossed that they did more than put some membrane to keep stuff out. But I don't think they will radically put a completely new keyboard knowing how Apple is. Scissors keyboards work too but I really doubt they will go back to that either.

It's somewhat amazing to me that so many clicked on "buy immediately and trust Apple fixed it"..

Folks - Is this the same Apple that was in total denial about this and doing everything possible to avoid even acknowledging the problem and finally doing a repair program?

Depends on how good it is going to be, but my 2013 is still decent enough for the job, so I'm mostly waiting out of sheer curiosity. If it's going to have face id, I might go for an upgrade.
