When should I sell my 5s exactly?

uhm now

----------

I have a iPhone 5s 32gb Gold Factory unlocked.

I just sold it for $630 on eBay. But after shipping and fees I'll make $540

Is that a good price? Im shipping it tomorrow, I paid almost $800 on launch day from Apple. So I lost $260.

If the iPhone 6 32gb sells for $700 like the iPods now, that means I have to pay a little less then $200 over my iPhone 5s.

I think its a decent price. Might try Craigslist next year.

I sold my ip5 64gb two weeks ago.

price= $422.94 release day
sold= $348 ($411.25 minus shipping and ebay/paypal fees [ripoff])

total cost of ownership of iphone 5 for 1 year use (I stopped using it after the 5S) is $74.94, which is $6.25 per month :) not too shabby

I'm sorry, but this is one of the more ridiculous threads I have seen.

In answer to the question, "If it sells 2 weeks before my new phone even ships, will I have to use one of my older phones in that time?", well, yes, presumably...

Then there are people saying that it should have been sold last Christmas for maximum profit. Once you had bought the thing, give or take, for maximum profit (or, rather, minimum loss), it should have been sold the following day.

I am in the same boat as you. I have a 5S, I like it, but I want a 6. I will wait until all the hype has died down, and buy my 6 (maybe toward the end of November). Then, and only then, I will sell the 5S. Yes I will lose £100 or more by waiting but, like you, if I am keeping up with the latest Apple gadgets, I can probably afford it in the grand scheme of things.

do you have a backup? worse case scenario is use ur backup while u wait for your new phone once you sold ur 5s.

I have 2 iPhone 5's (black and white 16GB) on AT&T. Their trade-in price is $175 while Apple gives $185. My problem is I probably won't be able to pre-order on Apple and have it delivered to the local store so I can trade-in.

Hey everyone

In my natural apple fanboy-ism, I'm insanely excited at the prospect of having a 5.5 inch iPhone 6 in just 6 weeks! I had some serious nostalgia looking back at the Verizon 5S shipping thread... all of us stalking our tracking #'s and even going so far as to crack numbers to track airplanes. Fun times! :)cool: )

Anyway, I'm planning on selling my 5s on eBay after I unlock it, along with some accessories in order to at least recoup half of the costs of my off-contract upgrade next month.

I've never resold a phone before and I'm kinda confused with the timing of it all.

When should I list it exactly? If it sells 2 weeks before my new phone even ships, will I have to use one of my older phones in that time?

And last but not least, how much do you guys think I should list my starting vid for a pristine, like-new 64GB Gold iPhone 5s, in it's original box and a few cases incl.?

Thanks:apple:

I just got 550 for my 5s but now is the time if you are gonna bail. Black sells for a little more than white.

I'm sure there are more ridiculous threads out there.

In the process of bailing. I wonder why that is.. Black seems to be the color most saturated in the market.
I can only imagine how much my gold 5S would've sold the day after it arrived.

Did you mean 5S?
Either way, when you break it down like that.. $6/mo. ain't too shabby

I've purchased pretty much every iPhone on release date except the 4S.... Each time I have sold my previous phone after the new one is in my possession. the difference in money is usually so low its not even worth giving up your iphone so early. On average from posting it before to see offers and looking at phones that have sold, its about a $30 to $40 difference.... so long as you have the previous outgoing generation.

I do the same. Been doing it since the original iPhone. I upgrade yearly and I've owned every version.

I don't see any huge value in selling early and being inconvenienced.

Such conflicting opinions :/
Well, here's what I did...
I ended my listing. I'll relist it the MINUTE the 6 is announced.
I may not be able to get 800+, but I think I'll still be able to get a good price north of 600 :)
I saw 5's sell for $400-500 just today...
So I don't anticipate the value will drop hundreds and hundreds of dollars. It's not exactly like a car...

You were supposed to do it months ago. Paypal and a seller can hammer you for up to 90 days with a dispute to try and return.

If one was to hold to sell their phone after the iPhone 6 came out would they be able to get 300.00 for a iPhone 5 64gb white model in mint condition or is that amount way to high for a iPhone 5 ??

Sell it before the end of next week.
In september they'll send invitations for the iPhone's event and media will start to talk about the new iPhone coming out.
Wait only if you are not sure whether to buy or not next iPhone, but if you're 100% positive that you'll buy next model no matter what size, color, feature it has sell your current model as soon as you can.

Today (Aug22nd). If not then, Aug 23rd, Aug 24th, etc. The only trouble with this plan is waiting for the new phone to arrive. I beat this problem by having an old flip phone that is active. So I forward on iPhone calls to the old flip phone, then restore the IPHONE to factory condition and sell the it.

However, when you do this, you are "all in for the new phone".

Kinda left something off that calculation didn't you? Assuming you bought it under contract, what about the monthly price to subsidize the phone? And if you went for an early upgrade on the 5s then what about the extra $250 you paid to get out of the contract and get the 5s on an early upgrade? So you paid at least another $450 for that phone.

Apologize if I made a wrong assumption, but it's an example of what many are overlooking.

Re your so-called $260 loss, that comes to around $20 a month. From that viewpoint, it seems very reasonable.

On the IPHONE food chain, I've sold the 3G, 3GS, 4G, 4GS, IP5 (all around $200 more than I paid for them when they first came out). Of course, I've never paid full price up front. I think the first 2 were $199 (16GB) and the rest were $299 (32gb). The reduced pricing is the 2 year contract deal which appears to be a thing of the past for the new IPHONE.

Most were sold on eBay but at least 1 or 2 were on craigslist. IMHO, craigslist buyers are mostly bottom feeders. Then, there's the face to face transfer AND the no-shows. I prefer eBay even with the commissions (never had a problem although I only sell to US buyers).

I have an old flip phone that I forward my iPhone calls to between the sale and the arrival of the new iPhone. I'll admit it's a PITA for whatever time I have to use the flip phone, but I think I get a higher price by selling before the new model is available.

This time is best for selling your old phone if you really want to go with iPhone 6. because after the iPhone 6 comes every try to sell their old devices. so sell it right now.

I got one question on selling a iPhone how do you know how to price the phone and how much less do you get by waiting to sell just after the announcements vs selling just before the announcements ??

It looks like buybackworld is also advertising a price-lock on all iPhone sales from now until October 31.

Offer prices appear to be higher than gazelle across the board.
