Thanks for all the input guys! I think the safest option would be to sell it now and if the iPhone 5 is a major bump up then I would get it, if it isnt then I could buy an iPhone 4 back and make some money! (btw for you guys saying is it worth an extra 50 or 100, remember I'm a highschool student with no job and I paid for my own iPhone out of my own pocket)
If your phone is JB'en and unlockable, then the value of the phone will definitely be higher. Good Luck!!
$700-900
Why would someone want to buy a USA iPhone 5 that's locked to ATT for $700-900 when iPhone 5 comes out.
Since Apple already sells factory unlocked iPhone 4 for $650 16gb. I will assume factory unlocked iPhone 5 will remain the same price.
Only idiots would buy a subsidized and presumably locked to ATT iPhone off craigslist or eBay when they can walk into apple store and pay for the factory unlocked iPhone at the sake price.
It would depend on the availability of the iPhone "5". If it is sold out then many people will pay $700-$900 for it. Apple may only sell locked iPhones to Verizon and AT&T in the first release weeks/months.
The current iPhone 4 will not lose much value until the actual official announcement of the new iPhone (which is usually a month or less, not three months). And the price drop in the first week to anywhere to the second month thereafter will be significant. iPhone 4 prices will drop to from $400 to $200-$300 (depending how fast someone wants to sell), until they stabilize and will go back up slightly to around $300-$350. This is because supply and demand. As current iPhone 4 sellers sell to get new iPhone, the market is flooded all at once therefore dropping the price of their iPhones. Eventually the majority of early upgraders people sell their iPhones to upgrade and the price stabilizes. Of course I do not know for sure, and anything can happen, just going off of previous releases.

Ok, I would like to do the same thing as the OP. However, I have a few questions.
1.) So if I sell my iPhone 4 on ebay now, I'll have to fully restore it. After my current iPhone 4 is long gone, when I get the new iPhone, will I be able to plug in and restore to all of my current settings? Or will the restore wipe everything out? Sorry, I just want to make sure I don't lose any photos, videos, and contacts.
2.) Will switching to a gophone alter anything with my plan? Will my plan automatically change(concerning the data use)? Will taking my iPhone sim card and using it in a GoPhone affect my plan in any way?
Thanks man. Really think I'm gonna sell on ebay once the sim card adapter shows up. I don't think missing my iPhone for 1-2 months will really hurt me, I think...You can make a backup in itunes and restore it later to the new iphone. But I would advise you to sync your photos with iphoto or just download them on your computer, and sync your contacts to google.
If you are using a dumbphone, you can drop the data plan.
Yea, I may just wait for an announcement..Although I'll be happy to get over $400 for it. Don't know if I should even bother to unlock/jailbreak..I am considering buying an iPhone 4 once the iPhone 5 comes out because I anticipate the price of the iPhone 4 on eBay will drop considerably.
This strategy keeps the demand up right when the iPhone 5 comes out, and you'll get about the same value. 3-4 months after the iPhone 5 comes out, now that's when you won't get anything for your phone... there's no "I just have to wait two more months to get a used iPhone 4 cheap..." demand
