I have always used over the ear headphones for travel, but damn the AirPod pros are solid. I don't think I'll ever go back to over the ear for travel. Not sure if others feel the same way? I felt it was relevant because I think that is a lot of the market for over the hear headphones.
I have never found an in-ear headphone that fits comfortably and consistently (including AirPods Pro and various alternative tips), or else I'd prefer them for the portability and convenience. Alas, I will continue using full size over-ears.

Maybe they'll actually finish the external design and make them look interesting on the second version.
You mean do more than set the "Smooth Edges" setting to "max" on a cube in their 3D modelling software? Calm down with the outrageous requests, mate.

I like mine but don't reach for them, they sit there, every now again I'll notice some 24 bit lossless in iTunes and plugin with the 3.5mm to lightning adapter, not hear any real difference at my age and then take them off 30 minutes later because it feels like they're squeezing my brain.

They're too big and have too much tension for big headed people like myself.
Still bought them though! 🤪

i purchased my AirPods Max on day-1 and use it almost every day (i am quite often on daily-go-back business travel). but i do not see it quite necessary to replace my device with a new one, if the updated feature is so minor.

Expecting to see only very minor changes along with some new colours. Most probably by the end of the year, a new one should be launched.

Yeah, For the 30 minutes the sound is nice, when I got them I really wanted to use them all day to listen to tunes / ASMR while I code but the reality is they* ended up as like special use cases because of how they pressure my head, I have a big head and its annoying, except for the holding my brain in part, it excels at that :).

I have these Sennheiser HD 800 S in my saved for later on Amazon but then I'll probably want a new audio interface, etc. and it just feels like kind of a waste at this point. The only thing that has me hanging on to a new interface / amp / those headphones is that I can probably make the music louder than Apple lets me, which I'd really enjoy.

I used to have a MOTU that piped into headphones and it was awesome, that was like 10 years ago, at some point regular air pods interjected into that flow and it all went up in the air.

I have always been the same way. I was shocked when I tried the new AirPods pros and they actually stayed in my ears. The standard AirPods have always worked for me, but anything with a tip would never stay put. Not sure if my ears have changed or the design changed, but they actually stay in now.

I do love the headband design of the APM, but the earcups look like a large version of the watch on each ear. I don’t hate them, but can’t say that I love them. Agreed with the point about included case; there should be a better way to turn them off and store them.
Definitely need improving. My ears start to hurt after a few hours -- and even worse, I have to switch to my metal eyeglasses because my preferred Oakleys are too thick and the can covers really pinch them.

I agree; especially for something that's over 3 years old now

I honestly hope that when a refresh finally comes out that aside from the changeover to USB-C charging, that they throw in one of the newer H chips too; if they just leave the H1 chip in it, I'll be shocked
New H2 so they can provide capabilities the OG APM won't be able to -- so we'll all want to upgrade.

100% relatable, the cushioning on the APM isn't great, its like it wants your skull / glasses to be squishy instead of it, its kind of backwards.

I have a pair of AP Pro but don't use them for travel. Serious question though, how long are your flights when you travel? Do you have any ear pain issues with any headsets you have ever worn?

True but I feel like it would be a supplemental feature. Something like amazing ANC or crazy battery life and lossless range. At the end of the day they are headphones and the most important feature will be sound quality and comfort.

I typically do at least one international flight a year (10+ hours). The over the ear headsets do become cumbersome on those flights, specially when trying to lay down and sleep.

My current roster includes the stunning B&O H95 for home, BOSE Ultras (replacing my QC45) for work/flights, and the nearest I get to an Apple product in this category (they were a customer service freebie for a bodged order) transparent Studio Buds+ for the gym/outdoor activities.

Never been remotely tempted by the AirPods Max and a 1.1 version after 4 years, isn't going to change my mind. You fail to move forward, you get left behind.
How do you like your H95? Im curious about them but im happy with my APM and H9 3rd gen.

My ears are slightly different sizes and one of the AirPods would always stay in just fine, but the other would always get loose and fall out, no matter which silicone tip I tried. I ended up switching to memory foam tips and I will never go back. They stay in flawlessly, you get a better seal for noise cancellation, and they are more comfortable than the silicone tips as well. I would highly recommend trying them out if you haven't already.

For me the two main differences were comfort (oval earpads compared with the round ones on the H9) and the physical rotary controls for volume and NC (compared with capacitive). And then the general fit and finish of the soft materials and of course, the luxurious hard case. Aware it’s a big jump in price from the H9s but worth it IMO.

APM needs a lot more than “minor changes.”

First it needs a diet.

Second it needs to look like an Apple product. Bose’s 700 NC headphones have more Apple-like design and construction than APM.

Third it needs to catch up to the competition in terms of a real carrying case and included extras. Even Jabra did a better job of this.

Last it needs to eliminate the issue of earcup moisture.
Absolutely, I can't believe you have people down-voting your post. It is almost like people don't want Apple products to improve or at least match the competition.

I'm not surprised that the Max 2 will be very similar to the 1st one, Apple did a good job overall with the 1st. I have had the Max since they were released and the sound quality blows me away every time I use them. The only issue I have with the Max is that they are on the heavier side, I especially feel it when I'm traveling for an extended period of time, they start weighing on my head and I'm definitely feeling ear-discomfort after an hour or 2 of wear. I haven't experienced any connectivity issues or moisture issues with the Max like others have.
