This is theoretically my next phone, from my 13 Mini, but Apple AI may well be the first 'feature' that will motivate me to move to a higher-end phone, if the SE doesn't support it.

So annoyed it won’t have a 1080p LCD, I’m sensitive to OLED so guess I’ll wait till micro LED displays?

But what Dynamic Island offers over "plain" Face ID is not a lot and nowhere near as obvious as the difference between Touch ID and Face ID.

Agree. Prefer a smaller notch leaving space for more icons left and right of the notch compared to dynamic island. Would be happy enough if the SE4 has the iphone 13 sized notch...

One item I haven't seen discussed: How much base storage do posters think the SE4 will come with?

I'm hoping it'll be 128GB...but Apple being Apple it wouldn't surprise me if it came with 64GB...

Apple-designed 5G chip

Nice, SE2 users were already left with the crappy Intel modem, now its tuned 5G version is coming back to SE. Apple really likes SE users.

I think that's gonna have my family buying from the iPhone 16 line next week unless something comes out about the 17 line sticking with Qualcomm modems. Don't want to potentially do the inferior modem thing again.

I like the Pro and Pro Max, but there are plenty of people who want a smaller size and I’m glad they keep making these to hit that market.

Why can't they just give us an 5.8 of the iPhone X? Make it the sides as thin as possible and keep it as small as the 8/Mini with touch ID and USB C? I do not care for their A20 apple cpu in a phone I Use for social media and light games. Just Give me touch ID and usb C in a compact phone. Not everybody wants a brick on their pockets. Even Chris evans "captain america" says them same and he is a millionaire that could buy an iPhone 28 with 7 tb of ram.

The whole concept of the Apple SE phone is to make a cheaper version based on the current processor and scavenging most other parts from all the iPhones that are still in production. 6.1 display Is the smallest iPhone display still in production so that’s what the new SE gets. Smaller, thinner, touch ID - none of that is in the current iPhone production line so it’s not going to get into a new SE model.

Still rocking the 2016 iPhone SE! Works like a charm. Screen's a treat, no PWM, photos are fine, good for ebook reading, catching the latest news, listening to podcasts, and running astro simulations. Love having a real home button.

This new SE sounds just like all the other humongous slab phones out there — too tall, awkward to hold, doesn't fit in one's pocket, uncomfortable, and screen too small to view websites and MacRumors comfortably compared to an iPad!

Given the rumored specs and price tag, I really want the iPhone SE 4 as a secondary device, but I have to say it sounds too good to be true. The iPhone SE 4 would cost ~ $300 less than the iPhone 16, yet have the same A18 chip with 8 GB RAM, Face ID, USB-C port, MagSafe charging/accessories, action button, and a very similar 6.1 inch OLED display.

Are people really willing to pay $300 more for a Dynamic Island, a capture button, an ultra-wide camera lens, and possibly a slightly nicer display (I’m pretty sure neither will support ProMotion 120 Hz)?

And especially who’s gonna pay $700 for the iPhone 15 with the old A16 chip that doesn’t support Apple Intelligence, when the iPhone SE 4 with the A18 and Apple Intelligence costs ~$500. It just doesn’t add up.

Objectively speaking the iPhone has becomed the IPhone SE of the iPhone lineup. I own one, I’m the only one in a bunch of friends. Theyhave told me several times that I should buy at least the PRO because I can afford it, but the true reason is that PRO models are heavy, uncomfortable and ugly as hell.

It really is hard to believe that Apple would undercut the "base" iPhone so significantly just months after release. But I am here for it, because I love the SE series. I've owned every model of SE phone and watch and am using my iPhone SE 2022 right now. It's still working great so I may not buy this model on day one but I will upgrade eventually. I think the "SE" line is really where most people should be, if they were honest with themselves about their needs.

We'll need to start a support group soon since we are in a minority.

SE is the “cheap” iPhone, I do not care about the rest.
Still at max predicted price is 300$ less than basic iPhone. That is 100 3$ coffees. Or 300 and more liters of coffee if I buy coffee and make on my own.

And a known Qualcomm 5G modem instead of an unknown 1st generation Apple 5G modem. Especially an Apple 5G modem based on intel modem with dubious performance history. Perhaps this 1st Apple modem will be great, but I sure don’t want to plug down several hundred dollars for a phone with a modem unknown capabilities.

Likely most people who visit this website aren’t planning on buying the lowest tier iPhone
You might be surprised. More people seem to be interested in the SE these days - particularly if it offers an A18 chip and 8GB of RAM. I am one of them. Of course, there‘s always the “I have to have a 5.8-inch screen/I have to have a 120 hz refresh rate or I’ll die” crowd. 😁

I like the SE product line and use the current SE. Great 5G performance, small form factor, low profile plus my beloved home button.
I still might be tempted to move up for the camera on my next iPhone.
This is the 1st generation apple 5g modem, so how can you say great performance, based on what?

The next iPhone SE is rumored to have an iPhone 14-like design with the following features:
  • 6.1-inch OLED display
  • A18 chip
  • Face ID
  • USB-C port
  • Action button
  • Apple-designed 5G chip
  • A single 48-megapixel rear camera
  • 8GB of RAM for Apple Intelligence
Japanese publication Nikkei Asia has since also reported that the iPhone SE 4 with an OLED display will be released in 2025.
If all of this is true, what exactly will the difference be between the iPhone SE and iPhone 16?

Sounds like really just a notch vs. Dynamic Island, one less rear camera, and Apple’s 5G modem. Who would buy the iPhone 16 for $300-400 more once the iPhone SE comes out if that’s the case?

I had the original SE. Then updated to the 2nd Generation which I’m still happily using. There was no compelling reason to get the 3rd generation it was a small update of the 2nd. Looking forward to see what the 4th generation brings. I prefer Touch ID (rocking iPad mini 5 now).

I guess some people don’t appreciate a good value and prefer to show off with the latest fancy stuff. Then again, no one could figure out how I was able to retire from a mediocre civil servant career at age 52.
