This is the 1st generation apple 5g modem, so how can you say great performance, based on what?
It’s possible that he’s referring to two expectations of the new Apple 5G modem: 1) the inclusion of mm wave coverage which the current SE doesn’t have and/or 2) better carrier aggregation in the lower 5G bands. And, yes, it’s always possible the new modem won’t work out well. But if Apple is having problems with it, it promise you it won’t see the light of day.

Given the rumored specs and price tag, I really want the iPhone SE 4 as a secondary device, but I have to say it sounds too good to be true. The iPhone SE 4 would cost ~ $300 less than the iPhone 16, yet have the same A18 chip with 8 GB RAM, Face ID, USB-C port, MagSafe charging/accessories, action button, and a very similar 6.1 inch OLED display.

Are people really willing to pay $300 more for a Dynamic Island, a capture button, an ultra-wide camera lens, and possibly a slightly nicer display (I’m pretty sure neither will support ProMotion 120 Hz)?

And especially who’s gonna pay $700 for the iPhone 15 with the old A16 chip that doesn’t support Apple Intelligence, when the iPhone SE 4 with the A18 and Apple Intelligence costs ~$500. It just doesn’t add up.
I call bull on the SE 4 getting iPhone 16 AI features, that would severely potentially undercut and cannabilize iPhone 16 sales. SE 4 will not have mag safe and just have qi2 wireless charging technology. Thinking the SE4 will get 6GB ram and not 8GB AND get A17 Pro chip from iPhone 15 Pro last year

They may also simplify the iPhone lineup in 2025 or 2026 and axe 🪓 the iPhone 14 & 15 earlier than usual and have the iPhone SE 4 as the only base model in the entire lineup

Once every sees the new iPhone SE4 and all the new features and the low price they going to want that model and that certainly would not be a bad choice

I'm really torn here. I want a smaller iPhone like the 2020 SE that I have now, but I hear that the SE 4 will be the size of an iPhone 14! If that's the case, I'll probably just go with the iPhone 16 or 17.

Definitely not. :) People bought it because it was smaller/lighter and cheaper. It is no longer smaller/lighter and I suspected the price gap with iPhone 16 won't be as large as it has been in the past. It will be interesting to see how many get this phone SE over an iPhone 16 or older iPhone once the initial orders are filled.
I shall as it's a newer version of my fave iPhone - the 12. Happy to continue with this set of features etc. Right size, weight etc.

*sigh* If it's truly bigger than the current SE, I might just end up getting a new battery for my 2nd gen SE, or finding a 3rd gen one. I've been saying this for years, but the 2nd gen SE is already too big for what I want in an iPhone, so any larger is a no-go for me, especially since there isn't a bezel to hold any of the phone.

I have a feeling there will be no more iPhone SE. They probably have all these plans floating around but when they do the math, it just won't add up and the plans will end up getting shelved. They'll just sell the 2 year old iPhone for a lower price.
There will 100 % be at least one more SE, Apple needs a lower cost device that can run the new AI features, the SE 4 will deliver this.

Over two and a half years have passed since Apple released the current iPhone SE, so the device is due for an update. Below, we recap the latest rumors about the next-generation iPhone SE, including potential features and launch timing.

iPhone-SE-4-Thumb-1.jpg

Timing

The latest word comes from Bloomberg's Mark Gurman. In his Power On newsletter last month, he said he expects the next iPhone SE to launch in the spring of 2025. All three existing iPhone SE models were announced in March over the years, so it seems likely that the fourth-generation model will also be introduced in March next year.

Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo and the technology publication The Information also previously claimed that the next iPhone SE will launch in the first quarter of 2025, so that timeframe has been corroborated by multiple sources. The Information said that Apple suppliers would begin ramping up mass production of the device in October.

Features

The current iPhone SE starts at $429 in the U.S. with 64GB of storage and 4GB of RAM. The device's key features include a 4.7-inch LCD display, A15 Bionic chip, Touch ID, 5G support with a Qualcomm chip, a single 12-megapixel rear camera, and a Lightning port.

The next iPhone SE is rumored to have an iPhone 14-like design with the following features:
  • 6.1-inch OLED display
  • A18 chip
  • Face ID
  • USB-C port
  • Action button
  • Apple-designed 5G chip
  • A single 48-megapixel rear camera
  • 8GB of RAM for Apple Intelligence
Gurman believes the next iPhone SE will likely be priced in the $400 to $500 range, so the device would remain a lower-cost option in Apple's smartphone lineup, despite gaining a larger display and a more modern set of features.

Update — September 2024:

Japanese publication Nikkei Asia has since also reported that the iPhone SE 4 with an OLED display will be released in 2025.

This excites me more than the 16 launch.

And that should be a huge problem for Apple.

No Dynamic Island.
48MP aperture!
Has Face ID and OLED display.
8GB ram.
Smaller form factor.
USB C.

UNDER $450.00!!!!

Apple, why does this excite me more than the 16?

I’ll be buying a 256GB 2022 SE to replace my 256GB 2020 SE in January. Need that sweet, sweet TouchID for as long as I can have it.

No, not at all:

SE has nothing to do with specific specs or features, or accommodating to Touch ID fans.

SE is all about the high value of getting Apple's latest SoC and the low price you get it for.

Everything else is secondary which is why the rest of the specs, hardware and chassis is outdated and "budget"-tier.

Dynamic Island is now the new, second generation "notch", and what the mid-tier and Pro iPhones get.

The 12/13/14 notch is now the "Touch ID" of the current generation and can thus land in an iPhone SE.
But Dynamic Island isn’t an upgrade. It’s like twenty leaps backwards and every time you leap someone punches you in the eye with a fist the size of Macho Man Randy Savage.
Leaving you with this gaping huge black eye you can’t really see or use.

And when you get to the end of the punches someone hands you some glasses that magnify your notifications so your other eye can see them properly.

This SE feels better than the regular 16 line up.

It’s something I easily notice and it just makes the phone feel faster and more responsive, such as when scrolling on the web, swapping between apps, etc. Whenever I go back to a 60Hz phone I find the experience jarring and a step back. I imagine a lot of others feel the same way. Android phones cheaper than the SE have 120Hz displays so there really is no excuse at this point not to include it.

Also, ProMotion displays like those in the iPhone dynamically go down to 1Hz so any effect on battery life should be minimal.
Apple has to go out of their way to source a 60hz display these days.

Only ONE manufacture produces a 60hz oled panel now. That skew basically ended in 2021. And Apple keeps it around just cause $$€££€¥¥
The cheaper phones are not even using OLED, like Walmart phones.

Which means Apple specifically has to order an inferior display to lock people artificially out of a 120hz display. Even though at this point there are basically ZERO added costs to a 120hz OLED display being manufactured.

This is Apple artificially forcing people into the next tier with artificially made up improvements they gate keep.

If Steve Jobs were around he would hand Tim Cook a katana and demand seppuku.

Agreed.

This is the 1st generation apple 5g modem, so how can you say great performance, based on what?
Based on my slower experience with non 5g-networks. The first time I used it was in Switzerland in moving trains. Pretty good. I don't transmit enormous amounts of data but it can be handy to sent pictures and similar. I like the fact that the SE is 5G capable.

Edit:
Okay, you seem to have asked about the upcoming 5G modem while I praised my existing SE. I don't know how Apple's own 5G modem will perform but I still like the fact that the low cost phone has the full speed option.

Yes, it is time to let it go… at least here on Mac Rumors. That’s because no one here works for Apple and complaining here won’t accomplish anything - other than to annoy other members. Complain to Apple. Don’t hijack threads.
Man, juts relax. What about free speech? You just have to ignore us instead of telling us what not to say or think.

Not saying this is the case but…

Apple could purchase and install 120hz capable displays and then limit them to operating at 60hz. In order to artificially provide additional premium features for pro models.

the SE is such a good phone! I have one for my little one. I use it sometimes to help me making YouTube videos. shoot I actually did awhole video about the SE recently

Just You!😅
its defiantly not just him.
People are tired of buying the iPhone 12SSSSSSSSSS.

Apples design language is tired and uninspired. It the same thing over and over and over again.

when motorola is on their 5th generation of folding devices and apples loss of market share to android is up 13%

Apples got a problem.
