Apple released the 24-inch iMac in April 2021 with the M1 chip and an ultra-thin design available in seven colors, including green, yellow, orange, pink, purple, blue, and silver. This is currently the only iMac in Apple's lineup, as the Intel-based 27-inch iMac and iMac Pro models were both discontinued over the past few years.

In his Power On newsletter last week, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reiterated that Apple has no plans to release an iMac with the M2 chip and will instead wait to update the computer with the M3 chip, which the company has yet to announce. Gurman expects the M3 chip to have similar CPU and GPU core counts as the M2 chip, but it is expected to use TSMC's 3nm process for significant performance and power efficiency improvements. All existing Apple silicon chips for Macs are manufactured based on TSMC's 5nm process.

Gurman expects the next iMac to launch by early 2024, and believes the computer will have a similar design as the current model, which starts at $1,299. This means the iMac will likely go around three years between hardware updates.

Other Macs expected to be updated with the M3 chip in the future include the 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Air, 13-inch MacBook Pro, and Mac mini.

I have to confess... These iMac colors really grew on me.

I was hoping Apple would release these iMacs between August 15th - which would be the 25 year anniversary of when the iMac was first released - and the end of the year. Sooner the better.

As many others are likely to say... Come on Apple give us a 27" iMac...

I doubt the iMac will get refreshed at the same time with any MBA next year.

I want a larger iMac to replace my decade+ one.

The new larger iMac I will keep for a decade.

I do not care to use that new one past a decade so separating the display to use for 2 decades is just not me.

The next iMac will probably come with an M3 chip, because in the Max and Ultra SoC the difference between M1 and M2 is substantial, but between the base M1 and M2 chips the difference is very minor. So it makes sense that the next big jump will come with the M3 and then, the iMac and other macs will equip it.

As for the M3, Kuo states that the CPU and GPU core count will remain the same, but I’d expect a slightly bigger and better GPU and a Neural Engine with more cores, because especially now, the future of computing will rely a lot on Machine Learning.

Still no 27" :( I'm going to have to order a mini and a monitor at this rate.
That's what I did... I'm not disappointed with the performance.

BUT my Teams setup sucks now that I'm using a Bluetooth headset + iPhone Camera in Continuity Mode. The iMac setup was completely reliable, I never had a single problem with it (webcam + mic). Now, it's not so good.

That's what I was trying to avoid. Its just compact and works great.

Correct, you will. Mac Studio + Apple Studio Display is the bigger iMac option.
It is the iMac Pro option.

The regular iMac 27" was a great value starting at $1799 and discounted for less. While the 24" iMac is a decent value, people who had a 27" 5K really don't want to downsize to 24" or to say a larger 4K display. With the Apple Studio Display (which is excellent) at $1599 adding even a base Mac mini at $599 makes it much more expensive. The other wrinkle is that the 27" iMac you could very easily and inexpensively upgrade the RAM, with the mini you can't do that so that even adds more to the price difference if you need more than 8GB.

I'd love the know the reasoning behind, why keep the iMac as the sole M1 model when every other entry-level Macs have been updated with a M2?

The iMac with the low-end M1 is over 2 years old at this point, it is literally the worst purchase possible - surely it's cannot be that bad a performer to get this treatment vs the 13-inch MBP or base Mac Mini?

Demand isn't there anymore to justify regular product refreshes.

You expect people to be tripping over themselves to rush in and sweep up 2 year old (outdated) product?

Apple could VERY EASILY put an M2 Pro chip in the iMac and you'd have an instant winner. They could add a 120Hz display to the mix and these would fly off the shelf.

Think it’s clear the M1 iMac must not have sold that well which is why they’re taking forever to update it. The colors were a fun change up, but look so odd now next to other Macs in the lineup.

It’s too bad because the all-in-one is a good value. Plus, as long as the Studio Display is $1,599, there still isn’t a suitable replacement for the old 27” iMac in that $1,799-$1,999 range. At best, you’re looking at:

$1,599 - Studio Display
$599 - M2 Mac Mini
$149 - Magic Keyboard
$99 - Magic Mouse

$2,446 + tax

I think you’re overestimating the popularity of iMac. If they added M2 Pro, then you’d have people saying “Well but I want a different display size” etc… best just get the M2 Pro Mac mini & whatever display you want to use with it.

And when you choose your display… it doesn’t have to be an Apple Studio Display but at least get a display with built-in webcam & microphone.
