If they are going to do 3 year refresh cycles, at least include a larger screen, 27 inch would be ideal.
Apple doesn't realize, just as users were not happy with the 13 inch MacBook Air, so are users with the 24 inch iMac.

I had been using a 27" iMac for nearly 10 years and loved it (especially when it went retina!) Both at home and at work. I'm a big fan of the larger size, and thought for sure once the 24" iMac with M1 was announced it was just a matter of time until we got a nice increase for the 27" as well (30-32" with M1 Pro/Max). But it feels clear that won't happen.

At home I ended up getting a yellow 24" iMac, and it's honestly a nice size. At work I eventually upgraded to a Studio Display + M2 Mac mini. More expensive, but I'm happy with the combination.

It's unfortunate that there hasn't been more action with the iMac. But I'm sure Apple sees it with sales numbers. Laptops likely outsell desktops by a good margin, and the iMac is probably even a smaller slice of that pie compared to the mini and studio.

Seemed weird that everything was bumped to M2 except for the iMac (especially the older design Touch Bar MacBook Pro), but I guess given its use cases the M2 wouldn't have made a big difference. I'd bet 2024 we'll see a refresh across the entire line with M3 (iMac, Mac mini, Mac Studio, Mac Pro, MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, etc).

Having said that, at least we do have a nice range of options for headless desktop Macs. How long did it seem like the mini wasn't getting any love and the Mac Pro was growing stagnant?

Sure Demand is down, but could it be that Demand is down because they haven't been doing regular product refreshes,
I agree. Apple has always had a problem with getting people excited about products and then abandoning them. Their rack server line was like this. People spend years waiting for the new one to come out, only to be greeted by the Trash Can. They would have been better off dumping the Pro line and keeping the rack servers.

Apple knows its market very well.
Apple knows how to manipulate their fans very well. They are no longer the computer for the rest of us that empowered users.

42" iMac with curved screen, HDMI inputs, and seperate power button for just the screen.

What I'm saying is, Apple tends to go very conservative with upgrade models. 15" MBA? YAWN. Didn't do anything to make it special. If Apple wants to make the iMac exciting again, make people want to buy it by adding some "pro" features and keep the cost somewhat muted.

Instead, we'll see an M3 model with nothing much more changed than the CPU which seems to be what Apple does nowadays.
The studio’s monitor (yes the display that looked a lot like a 27” iMac) less the stellar 1080P FaceTime camera was part of basis of the M3 rumor because it was thought that SoC would offer better image processing. By now Apple should have solved this issue along with adding at least a HDMI port on the back for usage with 2nd displays. This article along with Marks older predictions is just as most say the usual MR what we know.

I think Apple should do something similar to the Lenovo Tiny-In-One, where you can install the PC behind the monitor. One benefit it has the benefit is that you can replace the PC / Mac with a recent model, while keeping the existing monitor. Also you can upgrade to a larger monitor, while keeping the same PC / Mac.

Yeah, I've always liked the idea of a Mac mini mini (like even smaller or at least thinner than an AppleTV)
Especially now as basically an accessory to the the Apple Studio display where it would just kinda clip on the back. Just and single port (ok maybe two) that is hooked up to the display and it gets it power from the display like a MB can. Price it starting at $399.

You can more-or-less already do that with a Mac Mini. But the pic you show looks like it could have ventilation issues.
Sorta. But something even smaller, fan-less that could get it's power from the display could be even better.

I haven't seen something similar from Apple or 3rd party vendors. Do you have a link with something similar for the Mac Mini? I know that you could attach the Mac Mini to the monitor with a VESA adapter. But based in what I have seen with my customers, what Lenovo does is far better.

still use my yellow iMac quite often. certainly think this won't need to be upgraded for many years to come.

You expect people to be tripping over themselves to rush in and sweep up 2 year old (outdated) product?

Apple could VERY EASILY put an M2 Pro chip in the iMac and you'd have an instant winner. They could add a 120Hz display to the mix and these would fly off the shelf.

If you want cutting-edge technology, you need to be shopping for Mac Studio and the Apple Studio Display.

42" Monitor is the best choice!

The studio display is ridiculous. It costs more than the previous intel iMac with the same monitor built in! The TV I use, (link above) costs $500 and is wonderful.

There's an initial cost for the Studio Display. Once you've deployed this technology, you can keep upgrading your Mac Studio units with best-of-breed technology without replacing your gorgeous Apple Studio Display.

Really? Your solution is a 100ppi display (43" TV). Hardly the quality of a 24" 4.5K display and definitely not of Retina Display quality.
I'm using it now and it is great. Plenty of space for windows and multiple programs at once. 4k vrs 4.5k is of little added value. If I want retina, I can just lean back.

Same goes with any external monitor. But my TV can work with my PS4 and my satellite dish, not just my Mac.

How many of these do they sell a year now? It must not be super high priority internally
This is my thinking, too! Apple knows the sales numbers of every model and is updating accordingly.

You can’t go wrong with an M1 on any model at this point. Even an Apple Genius said it during a recent visit.

I know it will never happen, but it would be so nice if Apple could design some products which had thin clip-on panels.
The market for custom clip on panels would be GIGANTIC.
A bit like Nokia's were back in the day.
Never happen sadly.

I was expecting an M2 and M2 Pro version this fall. Maybe a larger 27” version to boot.

For desktop, nothing comes close to the ease of setup and compactness as an iMac. No extraneous cables or setup.
