At this point, I'd be surprised if a 27" iMac is released again.

I can see Apple maybe increasing the display size on the existing model to 25" and calling it a day. This would be a pretty compelling fuss-free, all-in-one option for those that want it.

I stand corrected if rumours of a larger 30" iMac are true. Happy for those that have been waiting (so long!) for one. As long as it presents a compelling set of features and upgrades over the previous generation, and is reasonably priced, it should do well.

Latest rumors are Apple is working on new iMacs (codenamed J433 and J434) with 24-inch screens, similar to the current models, while exploring the development of an iMac with a screen exceeding 30 inches.
By 'working on' shall we assume, 'planning on making no changes except plonking in an M3 chip'?

The big iMac is interesting to me, but I'm not sure how I feel about any desktop without replaceable RAM and SSD. I dislike the idea of a throw-away desktop. They shouldn't be little more than gigantic iPads.

I think 27" is a sweet spot. I use a 2x27" setup and a 30" screen on its own wouldn't suffice, and 2 of them would be too much. Even a 32" and a smaller 2nd screen would irk me. A 27" 5K screen is perfect and 4k in comparison doesn't cut it. And if there is a new 27" iMac any time soon, it's not going to be the value proposition that the old one was! Come on Samsung - if the S9 is going to be £300 cheaper than the Studio display like projected, that and a Mini Pro all the way for me.

When you have an 27" iMac, how is Apple expecting you to translate from Intel to Apple silicon? Not at all or what?

cheers.

Initially, they want you to spend a minimum £3.5k on a Studio/Studio Display combo! My top spec 27" iMac at the time cost me £1800. That's Apple for you, although inflation plays a part. However, M2 mini/mini Pro is the better bet, but you could still spec it close to that figure. Got my eye on a mini Pro and a Samsung S9, but it's still hefty outlay by today's standards.

What an iMac could pack…
