I really worry about it for my relatives -- they are in their late 80's and really struggle with "swipe" type things already.
If that’s true then by the time they need a new phone (they’ll be around 95 then) it might be good to think outside the box. Like getting a senior-friendly phone with big buttons and pre-programmed contacts so they could still call people and a digital photo frame for the pictures of their grandchildren. By that time, figure out what they want and not just get them a new iPhone by default.

If someone at 95 still wants flashy apps in their lives they can learn how to swipe, don’t worry. Those elderly people are still quite sharp!

If this report is accurate, then I guess my 13 mini is my last iPhone. It's the perfect size for what I need. If my 13 mini dies and can't be replaced, then I suppose I'll have to look elsewhere. If a 6.1" iPhone SE is the smallest phone on the market at that time, maybe then I'll finally get an Apple Watch.

I wasn't making a statement that it's right or wrong ... or good or bad..
No argument here either, mostly saying "What the heck, do it!". 👍

The current iPhone lineup is ridiculous anyway, and should be pared to three models in premium/carryover/value tiers. And parts-binning the SE would indeed help keep it around with needing minimum investment.

They only have them for iMessage and seeing photos from grandkids really

Although I don't like Face ID and prefer Touch ID, if Apple wants to keep Face ID, then is it really so hard for them to include both Face ID and Touch ID in a phone in order to give users a choice?

With the exorbitant prices that customers are charged for iPhones—including the SE—those customers deserve the inclusion of both Face ID and Touch ID.

Tim Cook is either being clueless or greedy. Or both. Both is probably the most likely scenario.

Maybe look into Assistive Access mode. Unlocking happens with an on-screen button there:

And all screens have a Back button:

Forgive me if it's been answered but how does this timeframe fit into the 2024 EU USB-C requirement? It's not like they're not going to delist the SE 3 for 5 months.

It has been over two years since Apple released the third-generation iPhone SE, and rumors continue to surface about a new model.

The latest word comes from The Information, which today reported that Apple plans to release a new iPhone SE with a design similar to the standard iPhone 14 in the spring of 2025. If this rumor is accurate, the iPhone SE would finally gain Face ID and a notch instead of Touch ID and a Home button, along with a larger 6.1-inch display. Other rumored features for the next iPhone SE include a USB-C port and an Action button.

The report said the new iPhone SE will remain a "cheaper" option in the iPhone lineup, as expected. The current iPhone SE starts at $429 in the U.S. with 64GB of storage, with other key features including a 4.7-inch display, A15 Bionic chip, 5G support, a single 12-megapixel rear camera, and a Lightning port.

Keep track of our iPhone SE roundup for the latest rumors.

This information is not correct. The iPhone Standard Edition (4) will enter the marketplace with the iPhone 16 launch. It has a 5.9 inch display, will use Face ID, boast Dynamic Island, and will feature a new stacked battery technology yielding a 4215mah for 3 stacked rows of cells. There will be 5 color options, Space Black, Starlight, Product Red, Rose Gold and Silver. It will start at 128gb and have a starting price point of $399. I work for a Fruit Stand.

Dearest American 'journalists' and bots. The phrase is 'similar to' and not 'similar as'. ❤️

Unless grammar errors or bots are uniquely American, and I can assure you they aren’t, what does being American have to do with it? You are on an American based website after all. Therefore doesn’t it stand to reason that grammar errors would be in US English versus, say, Spanish or French? 😜

I bought an iPhone SE 3 (2022 model - unlocked, Amazon Refurbished) as a travel phone before going overseas last November.

I bought it because I needed a small, cheap(ish), unlocked iPhone that still had a physical SIM card tray in it.

What I found I didn't like in it was the Home button - not as tactile like the Home button my old iPads used to have. Also - and I don't understand this at all - the battery drain is crazy! I can charge it to 100%, put it in Airplane Mode, turn off Cellular and turn the brightness down all the way, and 24 hours later the battery percentage will still be way down. I can charge my ancient iPad Pro 9.7" 1st gen to 100%, disconnect the charger and push the top button to turn off the display, and it'll still be at 100% the next day. Not this iPhone SE 3.

It sounds like the iPhone SE 4 will be larger (bad) and go to Face ID (potentially good, although I'd still rather have Touch ID in a smaller phone). Like the iPhone 16 they'll probably eliminate the physical SIM tray (really bad). I only hope they do something about the battery drain. In the meantime, I'm keeping my iPhone SE 3 until the wheels come off.

When they released the OG I was still naive enough to believe they were catering for people who wanted a smaller phone. We now know of course that SE has only ever been a way for Cook to recycle old designs and reuse production tooling that would otherwise go to waste. Misers gonna miser.

If they go 6.1” inches doesn’t that ruin one of the main selling points? The only people I know who own an SE wanted one because they prefer a smaller device and a device with a smaller display should be less expensive by its very nature.

Take away the smaller part and I’m not sure how much less expensive will matter to some who own one now precisely because it’s smaller.

I obviously can’t speak for other markets outside the US. Apple must have market data suggesting a bigger phone that’s still less expensive would sell more devices than a smaller device but you’d think that would partially negative some of the savings.

We’ll see a year from now I guess….

"the iPhone SE would finally gain Face ID"

Finally? Eventually :(

I have Face ID on my work phone and I don't like it at all. After all these years I don't get why you have to swipe up to actually unlock. That is just absolutely stupid.

You can unlock your phone with Touch ID by not looking at it with one finger press. I think that is just superior.

For those of us mostly using our phone to actually make calls, and using other devices for everything else, I would be happy with this rumored model! And if they could keep it small too, thanks…

Glad I talked my dad into going from a 2nd gen SE to an iPhone 15 pro last week. He was wanting to hold out for the new SE but, he has been happy with his new phone. I think Apple is missing a lot of sales to the older crowd (70+) by extending the time frame of releases with the SE.

I agree - having gone from SE to Max Pro and being in that age range I regret it. The camera on the Pro Max was the biggest selling point and it doesn't get used as much as I had thought - tend to carry a mirrorless camera when I think there will be photo opportunities. But its just too large and heavy - especially in Spring/Summer when there is't a winter jacket pocket to carry the camera (the 15 Pro might have been a better choice but the SE would be enough it most situations).

My Pixel 6a is so bad that I never want to buy another Google hardware product ever.
Your second mistake was buying an android lol. Jk.

I swear every pixel owner I know always seems to speak negatively of their entry model.

So you want apple to add TWO security inputs to a budget iPhone which would likely raise the costs of the device
Probably just in time for Apple to load all of your “deleted” pics and vids onto them for whoever buys one!

seriously, what a mess.
lol what does this have to do with that.

The main selling point of an SE has always been price.

I remember when I was a broke college kid, the se was my gateway into getting iPhone land without spending a crap ton. The Se often are the models you see on special promo for carriers or prepaid that you can get as low as free.

Heck I alone actually owned about 5-6 different Se. Not because I was a fan of the phone. I used to be notorious for breaking or losing phones. For $100 all I had to do was go to metro by T-Mobile and got the Se for free.

Price has always been the main benefit of the SE

Some points need clarification:

Size: iphone 14 is only 8 mms (0,32") longer and 4 mms (0,16") wider then SE2/3, and has a 36 mms (1,4") bigger screen.

Battery: is almost twice the size compared to SE2. (1821 mAh vs 3279 mAh), this addresses the awful battery life of SE.

Launch: Fall 2024 seems more likely, because EU law mandates all phone to have USB-C by the end of 2024.
If launch is Spring 2025, what would they sell in between?

Wonder whether there will be minor price hike. Expecting it to launch in the first half of 2025
