An integrated 3G modem would be nicer.

Some people might think so. I suspect the majority does not, and it looks like Apple agrees with them.

As long as there's an external solution, I can't envision Apple going to internal 3G modems. It seems to me that that would be a lot of expense for very little return.

Is that a valid argument? The majority of the people do not think 17" or 15" MBP is a good idea and yet Apple produces those.

I suspect the majority of people think the 17 inch and 15 inch MacBook Pros are good ideas.

The market for an internal 3g card in a Mac, even as an option, is likely too small to be able to recoup the investment. I predict you'll not see such an option anytime soon...certainly not as long as you can just buy one for the carrier of your choice and plug it into your Mac. IMHO it was be a pointless engineering exercise with little or no return on investment.

Are you saying that Apple is that greedy? The majority of people (not investors) do think that having internal 3g in MB is a good idea. Why not? The more options the better. Sure the majority would not buy a laptop with 3g but those who buy 15" and 17" MBPs are also in minority.

Yes, I'm saying that in the current market, Apple would never put a 3G internally in their laptop computers because they would view it as a pointless expense to undergo for such a limited application. The majority will prefer to plug in the 3G modem for the carrier of their choice.

But hey! it's only an opinion. Maybe yours is just as valid....keep hoping - maybe it will turn out that I'm wrong. Time will tell, and I really don't care whether they do or not. I have no interest.
