...many just put it in a case anyway.
But not all. ;)

When someone new to Apple ask you what colours Apple offers...

Me:"Oh they offer Silver, Gold, Rose Gold and... Light Space Grey, Dark Space Grey, Slate, Matte Black;)"

The other guy: "I thought only Company X offers so many inconsistent colours?"

Another vote here for matte black with some grip so I don't have to use a case on the + series. My guess is the phone would look like crap after a few years of usage for most people which is why they probably don't do it (my guess).

The Space Gray SE is perfection. Next, iPhone6S in Space Gray. And this coming from someone who has the silver iPhone 7. (I long for the Space Gray!)

My most favorite colored phone was an all black iPhone 4s. That was a sharp looking phone imo. Sure, the metal edges were silver but looking that thing face on ... it was pretty. I don't mind space grey, but with all the weird stuff coming with glossy jet black phones - I don't think I'll ever use those. I put a case on my phone anyway so what the heck.

I tried a white iPhone (yep, I did it) for the first time and ... I swear it's easier to read text with the white bezels so I might stick with it. Sitting in my black case, it isn't that bad.
4 was the glass wasn't it? That was the 2nd best looking iPhone the 1st iPhone is the best in my opinion.
I switched from the white since the 3 to the black this year.

Why do you care so much? If you don't like something, don't buy it.

Blows my mind some of the useless topics people come up with.
On top of this, use common sense. Black in the way Apple wants to use it scratches incredibly easily. Why use it for a large computer...?

It's only really weird when you think about how many shades of Space Grey they've come out with. When you look at that though, it's kind of odd.

I'm also a much bigger fan of black, as some others (Space Grey to me looks like dark silver), but to each their own. I stopped caring once apple stopped perfecting their phones. Funny how that works.

To give a little more context though, I believe they switched originally because the black (in this case, a much darker color) chipped a lot, since aluminum and various metals typically are silver by default.

Whether they found it classier after changing over, and kept it due to that, or due to better aesthetics after chipping is anyone's guess.

Not a single scratch on my matt black iPhone meanwhile my gold iPhone 6 looks like someone was cutting sushi on the rear

Yeah... Apple for all you know was testing(?) the matte black in the market.

Right now, looking at how the iPad Pro 10.5" did not come in matte black, comes to show that they are probably going to "invent" a new colour for the black variant of the next iPhone or maybe just stick to the ol' space grey. o_O

Right, space grey metal siding, possibly steel. Glass for back. It allows them to avoid the aluminum anodization process which is what caused difficulties previously.

This issue is probably not new, but seriously Apple, just stick to one black colour. I was expecting the whatever new devices to come in the new "matte black" colour, many love when it was released alongside iPhone 7 and Plus.

The new 10.5" iPad Pro comes in Space Grey and not Black, the new HomePod comes in Space Grey and not Black.

Is it so difficult to stick to Space Grey like how they did for the Silver, Gold and Rose Gold? Are they already discontinuing the black colour used in iPhone 7 and Plus?o_O

IMHO Apple have never really mastered black for the iPhone. It either scratches or chips or both.

Although the Matte Black does appear to be the most resilient of the black options presented so far.

Agree. It is really sad... remember the delay for the white iphone 4? Steve made sure it was perfect before releasing it.

But now look, all the different shades of untested black, soon there will be a movie "fifty shades of grey: iPhone edition"

I was so hurt and disappointed that we only found out about this the night before. It was really a bummer and letdown.

So not Apple like.
