Maybe we can just agree this launch was worse/more poorly planned than even their poor launches in history.
As
@maxsix stated, Apple has a brilliant marketing strategy. This launch is no different from the Apple Watch, iPad, iPhone, the Apple Pencil, and/or any other hardware related launch. Just wait until the AirPods release. Those too will be highly constrained and sold out most likely through the holidays until 2017.
There were issues with the Apple upgrade program this year. But that doesn't mean everybody was or is disgruntled about the launch. I know many people that received the device of their choice on launch day and had no issues. Some, did have issues.
The new jet black color was obviously the most popular choice. The number of iPhones for pre-order for that color was through the roof. So it depends on how your classifying this as a poorly prepared launch. What about those who ordered the least popular colors on launch day and received their devices immediately? Does that mean that they had a poor experience or classifying this as a poor launch? So, clearly your experience may vary, depending on the color, location, how are you upgraded, and when. There are a lot of variables that affect a launch, like I stated before, some of had positive experiences, and others have not.
So no, I won't agree with you that this was a poorly prepared/poor launch. Because everyone's experience May vary and there are so many contributing factors to why or why not somebody may or may not have received their particular device they wished for on launch day.
Any individuals around me that I know that purchased their iPhone of their choice on launch day, had no issues getting the device that they wanted. I'm not speaking for everybody, just for those that I know that did not experience any issues.
