You know that power management features are options, right? You can use them, and you can not use them.

Me myself am using a Huawei Mate 10 Pro, and never experienced app closing due to power management. It's my 3rd Huawei phone, after 3 years with a iPhone 5 and SE.

I've missed iOS gestures for going back in apps, but now they are system wide in android, and the only thing that needs to be implemented, is the notification bar tap for going to the top of any app.

Here almost nobody uses FaceTime and iMessage, or Macs, so you can imagine how useful it is to use an iPhone.

I’d say Apple is slated to have the biggest year focused on camera improvements for 2019. Realistically, all the other features on the iPhone are mature enough at this point where there really isn’t that much they’re going to introduce besides some more A.R capabilities, which also ties directly into the triple lens camera. And being the camera is the most popular feature on an iPhone, I think we are all in for surprise for what Apple will debut in the fall.

I think Huwawei pull ahead in other areas like having a wide angle lens and a 5 x optical zoom on the telephoto lens. I think it will take Apple a few years to get to where Huwawei are now in terms of camera because Huwawei are quite far ahead. Obviously there is more to a phone than a camera.

Agree that there is more to a phone than the camera, but there are many (like myself) where the our phone is also our camera. Funny enough, it was my Samsung days that got me there. That was way back in 2013-2014. I’ve been disappointed with Apple’s cameras since making the switch. I’d rather not carry both my phone and a camera, especially now that I am a crossbody-only wearer, but I’ve been debating it more and more. My bright day photos are great, but night and indoor photos are still hit or miss. Hoping Apple gets this right because others are continuing to do it better.

I wonder what exactly do iOs haters do on a site dedicated to rumours.
Are they so free in their lives, that they have to spew venom here of all the places :D?
A better suggestion would be to customise, tweak, root the guts out of your Androids. That should keep you guys busy. And if you are done doing that, develop some quality apps for your devices. Putting forth facts like Apple is overpriced, boring, low-specced, etc have been done to death and no one cares.
People who care are on Android forums, not here.

How broad-minded of you!

I was just in the Apple store at lunch so I grabbed a Xr, opened the camera app, closed my eyes so it was dark and took a photo. It looked OK to me.

Well the mentioned Huawei is faster, with better battery life, better camera, better design, way cheaper...
So why are you here? I actually like the Huawei designs but what people forget that none of these OEMs have to invest in software and OS development like Apple. That's partly (only partly I agree the price jumps have been too high) the reason why Huawei and others are cheaper.

Honestly, the quality of ALL smartphone cameras has advanced so much it is hard to tell in most cases the difference. Especially when most are compressed and filtered for Instagram, Pintrest et al.

You realise that apple is the least investing in R&D company on the market right now? Maybe you should look it up first.

Yes I know there’s more to a phone than the camera but Apple runs a Shot on iPhone campaign for gods sake. My point is Apple has no reason not to be the best in the camera department, period. Unfortunately I think Phil Schiller mistakes popularity for being the best.

I’m if you are going to state something as a fact than according to site rules you have to provide a citation. Else it’s just an uninformed opinion. So show us links for the r and d for various companies smart phone divisions.

No he doesn’t. It’s a very shrewd move to show off the capabilities of the camera in the iPhone; irrespective of dxomark and threads such as this.

To be fair, they are like Samsung in having their fingers in a lot of pies - pretty sure this is not just mobile phones (neither is Apple's) and the difference is actually pretty small between the two, now compared to Google that's another story. Again they do not have to worry about updating Android except for the domestic market (as Google can't operate in China all the Android OEMs use Google-free forks of Android).

Apple’s to oranges. Specifically asked for r and d in the smartphone sector. Including r and d for Samsung dishwashers makes this chart a red-herring for this discussion.

Edit, can’t be done because that information is not available.

Yeah, all of the businesses in the chart have such a broad array of products and services (appliances, phones, tablets, computers, product delivery, peripherals, 5G, cloud services, on-line marketplace, etc.) that it's impossible to draw any conclusion on R&D spending on particular product lines.

It is a very nice phone which I would strongly consider even over Samsung if I wanted an android.

So Huawei is just better? I don't know what planet you're from but no Huawei is NOT better. Veeeeery far from it. I'd rather settle with Samsung than Huawei any day.

Lol what's this, the anti-Huawei parade? Great pics by the P30 Pro!
Lol this is the market my friend. Its the market not liking Huawei...do you see how this works? lol
[doublepost=1555023211][/doublepost]
So you agree those pics are way better than what an iPhone can produce.
Yes because ALL mobile phone users buy phones based on one feature. The camera. Excellent logic.
[doublepost=1555023598][/doublepost]
At best, I think Apple will catch up to Samsung S10 in terms of photo quality this year. The P30 Pro is probably two years ahead of what Apple has in mind.

I think Apple has been spreading themselves thin by investing in Animojis, AR, and FaceTime 32.
Let me tell you, you can take 5 flagship phones and lay them out side by side and compare photos. Literally no one is going to make purchase decision on an entirety of a phone based on its image quality. People forget it takes SOOO much more than camera to make a phone great. Remember a year or two ago Pixel was the champ in terms of photos? What are their market share now? P20 was number 1 in photos last year what are their market share now compared to Apple and Samsung? Exactly. You know what's hard to replicate? UX and software optimization...that is the key and Huawei don't have neither of them and lags very far behind. P30 redeeming feature is only the camera. Its just hardware and some software tweaks and nothing else.
[doublepost=1555024079][/doublepost]Its Huawei.

Most of the tech they use is either stolen or utilized illegally. Remember, they are a government entity dressed as a corporation. They steal intellectual property and use them without paying for royalties and have "spies" within American companies and are encouraged to steal tech, ideas, business strategies, etc etc. In fact, the Chinese government pays the "spies" money for these information. Why? Because they cannot develop their own due to technological limitations and lack of innovation. Not to sound anti China but this is the sad reality....Huawei is just a ****** company.

So no thanks - if its Huawei, I always say nope

Rant over.

That's especially telling when you consider Apple's revenue. The company has been great to shareholders, but they're coming a bit short in terms of R&D investment.

They are only short because Apple's R&D is being measured partially against Samsung's R&D related to dishwashers.

That's nothing compared to the estimated $500M to 1B being spent by Apple per year in self-driving R&D.

Apple spends about 5% of its revenue on R&D, well below the tech industry average of 10%.
