What I see Apple doing is putting a quad i7, whatever, chip in the pros and pretty much leaving the macbooks alone except for maybe a software update of some sort, like added functions with the trackpad, etc.
That way, the MBP would be the choice for professionals who need to squeeze every processor cycle to make a living, and the MBs would be for people doing every day consumer type tasks on a reasonably portable, fairly powerful machine. If this happens, they may put in slightly more powerful c2d chips.
The real question is what, if anything, Apple will do with it's desktop line. Apple may put the new chips and features in the desktops first to boost sales in this area. So far, like everyone else who makes desktops, they've experienced reduced sales, and their product lines are considerably more stale than the laptops. Mac mini, hellooooo?
Therefore, I see Cupertino updating the desktops first, then the MBPs and at most minorly tweaking it's consumer laptop.
It would be great if Apple then put in a nicer screen in the MBs, but I don't ever see this happening. <ducks>
