Yeah, it works fine, Most apps are still not compatible with 4.2.1 yet, so Activator, Lockinfo and BAckgrounder (3 of my must have apps) make the iPad unstable, besides that the Jailbreak itself works like a charm and I like the new cydia UI changes, love the installed package tab by itself and the smaller window for the verbose installation. :D

Tethered JB - bit of a weird one, given that a lot of the more common JB apps require a reboot after install.. :p

I've been hacking away at it for almost an hour now.
IMHO it's not worth it.

Activator and other key Cydia apps/elements aren't 4.2.1 compatible yet.

If you start installing the usual stuff like SBS Settings you'll find yourself doing alot of rebooting to the normal (no JB) state and then having to reboot with redsn0w to the "tethered/JB" state. I think I've done this 6 times so far.

Note: most of the time the reboot hangs on the Apple logo screen, don't panic, just open redsn0w and go through the "boot to tethered mode" process. Be prepared because this can happen alot depending on what you install.

Honestly I don't think that the guys at Redmond Pie actually use any of these JB solutions because they never even hint at what a PITA it is to actually go through the process to get your IPAD back in working order.

Reinstall EVERYTHING???

but still have re-install all your app and settings.

Ok, let me get this straight.

No matter what I wait for, I am going to have to upgrade, then JB, then REINSTALL EVERY SINGLE APP on my ipad and it's data???

Same way you do everytime you restore the firmware, not sure why you sound so sorprise :confused:

I am just new to iOS with the iPad. I JBed my pad the night it first appeared and I have not had to reinstall anything.

Thanks for the link. I will take a look. Or, maybe based on another thread I just posted, maybe I don't need to upgrade.

Not every single app, only the ones you install through Cydia. The ones you download from the app store will either just stay in place (if you do an update), or can be restored from backup (if you do a restore).

Ignore all the rude comments. Must be nice to know everything and not need help.

After you upgrade to 4.2.1, you need to apply the redsnow jailbreak and then reinstall your Cydia apps. Keep in mind that currently the jailbreak is tethered, meaning you have to attach your phone to your computer when you reboot it in order to have all your jailbreak stuff working. If that's too much of a hassle, you might want to wait until the untethered jailbreak is developed and released. Just keep an eye on these boards and you'll see when that happens, or visit the iPhone dev team's blog.

This is a joke right?

Is this the first time you've ever updated the iOS on an iDevice? Wait a sec, is this the first time you've upgraded the OS on any computer.

Not a joke. When I upgraded to Vista from XP, I didn't have to nuke my hard drive. I simply stuck in the Vista disk and clicked Update!
