I think it is lame for Apple stores not to have them on display yet for folks to preview.

Once they are shown off/announced at the conference then why not. I know some folks would like to get a better idea so they can make a decision on preordering the better one for them if they want to.

To be fair, this is always the case with new products. However, usually they have a very definitive and publicly announced "street date" to go by. Remember the first Apple Watch? Preorders happened weeks before anyone even saw the product in person. Talk about a recipe for customer product returns!

To me street date means first sales date, unless there is some mandate out there which they can not be put out for preview either.

Maybe they are afraid of the possibly of folks stealing one.

In any case they leave themselves open for lots more returns, you think they would want to avoid that as much as possible.

Based on past experience, the store will have one or two units on demo as soon as they start selling the new iPads in store, which is likely early or mid next week.

I know that is what happened in the past. I still say it is lame and it cannot hurt to put them out for preview earlier so some folks just are not blindly preordering hoping they made the right choice. All it does is lead to more returns but if Apple could not care less, ...

Just went to Best Buy. I got the impression that they had them in the back already but he wouldn't sell them until Wednesday

I would not doubt someone somewhere gets one early. Stores should have safeguards in place at checkout to avoid sales before street date but ....

It's fun to go to stores and try to get one from clueless employees, considering there's no shortage of these. Then when the employee realizes what they've done: the full weight of the Apple juggernaut aligned against them. Must be scary :D

Except show me one place where Apple's stated a street date? They didn't call them preorders, they said they were on sale on Monday and shipping sometime next week. There is no official street date so stores can absolutely sell them when they get them. The stupid employees are the ones that say they can't actually sell them yet.

I work in retail and no we cannot sell a product until its "release day" or "launch" In fact the products upc wont even be valid until that date so its impossible to sell one

My point is that there is no stated "release" or "launch" day. So until someone actually tries to scan one and sell it there is nothing to suggest they can't be sold now. I've not seen anyone say that someone tried to actually sell one

I wonder when they will be available to reserve for in store pick up, I also wonder if they are going to sell out quick! I'm waiting until around August until I get mine so I'm hoping that i will be able to reserve one for in store pick up for the day I want to collect!

There is no 'announced date' to you. Doesn't mean there's no internal 'launch day'.

No one has them yet so of course no one has tried

I'm probably going to try going by my local Apple Store Monday; Tuesday if necessary.

Thing with ordering online with Best Buy is the $50 gift card which is nice. But I'm pretty sure these will be in stores Monday or Tuesday.

What do you think? ( $50 is $50 bucks)
