Released? No one knows for sure. ‘Announced’ will be in September. The typical release is mid September, but different model iPhones might launch separately on different dates, as they did last year.

For the last six years, Apple held its iPhone announcements on either a Tuesday or Wednesday, and usually no later than the second full week of September. For 2018, this gives us four possible dates: Tuesday, Sept. 4; Wednesday, Sept. 5; Tuesday Sept. 11; and Wednesday, Sept. 12.
Other then being the anniversary of the terrorist attacks on the NYC World Trade Centre Towers where thousands of people died, not much.
Based on the events of the last few years, my guess is:
- Phone announcement/event on Tuesday, September 11
- Pre-orders on Friday, September 14th
- iOS 12 goes live around Wednesday the 19th
- Phones become available via delivery/in-store on Friday the 21st.
No tech company does events on September 11th so it will be the 12th.
I had a conversation with a coworker about if the conference would be held on 9/11 and we both settled on ‘no’. Given that they have held it on a Wednesday before, I would venture 9/12 is a safe bet. Looking even more detailed, invites usually go out roughly 2 weeks ahead. So expect to know the keynote date the last full week of August.

Just to clarify, that one model you’re referring to is actually the ‘6.1 LCD’ iPhone that might in October.

iOS 12: Sept 18th
Pretty certain that the iDevice event will not be on 9/11. And I am almost damn near certain that they will not drop iOS on a Saturday (the 18th).
