Mac people are ever fascinating.

Wise up PC people do the same thing, and they have more hardware to drool over. ;)

Either way, the MBP case could spare a redesign, the current one is great, and it's the best 17" notebook you can find hands down.

I would like to see more hardware in the 17" though, and more pro ports and maybe even an eSATA port instead of a FW400 one.

Sorry guys, I just have to scrap this current case design, because it is just boring.

steve:)

We should put that in the Visit Britain brochure :p

Another little gold nugget... the guys at the Apple Store said if the MBP gets updated in the next 4 - 5 weeks they'll swap the item I just purchased, no problem. if it comes out any later than that, I wouldn't mind anyway.

I've just sold my MBP, 2.16ghzC2D, 3gb RAM for just over $2,200 and was thinking about buying a new 2.5GHz MBP tomorrow...

Or just use my Mac Mini and wait for June 6th and see what happens

WWDC was rumored to maybe see the new case design, but now with Montevina supposedly kicked back to mid-July, Apple might wait till August and roll it out with the new MacBooks rumored to show up then.

Alas, my hand is now forced as I have to have my new MBP before the last week of July, so I am ordering a 15" tomorrow. Fortunately, it should last me three years for as little I will use it (it's a pure travel laptop).

PC people are, in many ways, worse. Just not this one.

The ONLY reason I even started looking at Mac was Windows Vista. I think Apple has made more money off of Vista than Microsoft has. I've definitely discovered some things I've been missing out on since then... Though I'm not convinced that Mac is superior. My Dell desktop still gets its share of use when my much more powerful Mac Pro won't cooperate with the rest of the world. At times it's a technological handicap.

Still, I'm going to buy my second Mac today. A 15" 2.4 MPB.

The case could use some change... I agree. It still doesn't look dated compared to other notebooks, but it's pretty hard to tell a MBP from a Powerbook at a glance. Maybe they're goin for the Rolls-Royce philosophy... make it unmistakably Mac when you look at it...

If I buy now and then Apple announce on 9th June that there will be a new MBP in say, 2 weeks from then, can I recall on that 'within 14-days new product? Pay stockingsfee and get the new in return of your old one' thingy?

Perhaps... but only if you buy directly from Apple. This reassurance is one of the reasons I bought my MBP at the :apple:store rather than from a cheaper source like eBay.

Hello,
this is my 1st post here. Well Im also waiting for this update to switch to Apple. I like the design of the current MBPs but I'd like to see the same keyboard as on a MacAir. I dont like the current one.

Cheers ;)

They sure do have that effect now, when you see that plain silver exterior and slim profile you know it's a Mac.

I agree about there being fanatics in both camps. And I agree about the Mac not being as superior as many will make it out to be. I love Mac OS X more than anything, more so the software that is run on it in the Pro section. The hardware options leave me wanting a bit.

There is nothing made that I know of that compares to the HP Blackbird 002, huge footprint or not, it takes the best of the Mac Pro and kicks it up two notches. The thing is gargantuan and built like a fortress, but the hardware specs in it, and it's ability to use either SLI or Crossfire make me drool....

As do the UMPCs from Sony (the ones that still have an optical drive in it), the touch books from Panasonic, and the 19" laptops from Alienware and Asus. It's very niche stuff, I know, but it's hardware that I wish I could use professionally.

I think that would work, but good luck getting the new MBP in a timely manner, whenever they do release it.

I ordered my notebook yesterday. FedEx says it will be on my doorstep tomorrow (free shipping).

If they release the new one on the 9th, my guess is you'll be looking at the second or third week in July before it ships, if you're lucky. A brick-and-mortar store might have a handfull to sell, but Apple likes to 'announce' new stuff with no existing stock. Then they can make production forecasts based on initial sales. Not the most customer-friendly way to do business, but it's smart manufacturing.

That assumption only is used when it's new product; with something like a revised MBP, they know from past productions how many they sell, so in turn they can ship/be available the same day it's announced. Yes the MBA they didn't know the demand, therefore the 2 week delay; Time Capsule, same deal.

Appreciate the insight... I only figured so since most are calling this update 'Rev A', but I suppose you're right. Regardless it doesn't look like we're going to see a new MBP in June https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/489866/

i know people must be thrilled.
