I love to read about technology and I get excited about it but I don't feel like I have to have the latest and greatest. My iPad 1 still works and for surfing the net and for checking email its fine. I do 'wish' it had a retina display though.

I currently have a 2012 15" Macbook Pro with a retina display and plan on using that until it dies or I can't run the software I want on it.

Before that I had a 2007 Asus 14" Core 2 Duo 1.8Ghz notebook which my Retina display Macbook replaced because the chassis was broken all over and the track pad stopped functioning for the most part along with the display becoming unhinged from the notebook on the left side.

I also have a 1st gen Apple TV which I'm debating to upgrade only for the Airplay but that won't be until year end.

I do love to go back and read the Power PC forums about older machines being upgraded or just commented on.

When you no longer have the latest and greatest?
How does it make you feel?
It doesn't make me feel anything. I buy things based on my needs/wants. When they no longer meet them I replace them. Having the "latest and greatest" isn't a concern.

Having the Retina MacBooks come out shortly after I bought my Late 2011 MBP kinda sucked but I still love mine.

The second you buy any technology it's already outdated and there's something newer, faster, more powerful, and more efficient already being developed.

I used to feel like I had to have the latest & greatest technology. Though, one can go broke doing so. I've found that my needs are not that great that I need to buy the best of the best. I just replaced my aged MBP with a new 2012 MBP. I looked at the Retina display but ultimately decided on the classic as it fit my needs. It does what I need and I saved myself some money in the process.

G5 still kicking here. Yeah, it's loud. Yeah, it isn't that fast. Doesn't bother me. I'm still a student, and I don't need anything special. Also, using outdated technology where things won't just worked has taught me how to use a computer much better. Right now, I'm compiling open source software (FreeCAD). There are Mac packages available. They won't run, so I have to make it myself. Skills in compiling I would not have gained otherwise.

I have learnt not to care anymore about being outdated and that's why i bought the mid 2012 cMBP which should last me at least 2-3 years with RAM and SSD upgrades. Still happy with the iPhone 4 and iPad2/3.

I'm planning to buy the 27" iMac as i know i can still upgrade the RAM quiet easily.

It depends by needs...

For home purposes (in clamshell) and travel: white macbook 2006, macbook air 2011 and now rmbp 13... Changed them just for pleasure, portability, screen...

For work (photography): macbook pro 2008, macmini server 2011 and now macmini 2012 i7 2.6... I think i change them every year and half, for raw power

Eh dosen't really bother me. I buy every 4-6 years depending on my needs. Had it not been for my increase productivity with video/photography my 06 Macbook would still be my main.

I upgrade my iPhone every year and my computer every couple of years. I don't think it's worth hanging onto it. Apple stuff retains its resale value extremely well. Selling your year-old stuff and upgrading is often the smartest plan, because you're never off warranty and you're basically renting the equipment for less than $15/month in most cases.

As long as it's doing the job I need, no problem. I've had my MBP just over a year. Plan to upgrade to a SSD later this year. Memory is more than enough for my current needs. I expect to get 2 to 3 more years out of it then will look at upgrading.

Who cares, as long as it does the job, if a newer machine will help to bring in more $$$ then the old one will be replaced and donated. This is the very nature of technology, I now have tablets that offer unbelievable computing power compared to just a few years ago.

I'm just happy with my crusty old computer, even though it's completely out of date...

I don't care, my wife and I got ourself 2 new 2012 macs ( cmbp for me ant 13 inches air for her). We had 2 early 2008 15 inches MBP that we gave to our twins sons and both laptop run really well, just upgraded the ram to 4 g and voilà!

I needed more power for work and my wife wanted something shiny!

Just like with the 2008 laptops, we should be good for a few years no mather what Apple does. And I had the Ipad 2 then I bought the third gen when it came out. Total waste of money, gave my older son my iPad 2 and there is nothing that I do that he can't!

When my iPhone 4 broke under warranty, Bestbuy gave me a 4S and I have to say that it is a lot more powerful so for some switching might be worth it IMHO.

I did'nt switch it for a 5 but I certainly will buy the 5S or whatever it is they call it when it gets out.

So no, I don't care but when I want something, if I can I will wait for the latest just like I did back then for the iPhone 4 and lately for the 2012 MBP. And if Apple release something new 6 months later, well good for them, I won't loose sleep over it.:)
