iPad Pro Where are the iPad Pro reviews?

This is very weird launch from Apple. Usually in the past the reviews were out few days before preorder if my memory serves me right but now, we have passed that date and there are still not reviews from anyone.
So, do we really have to wait 2 more weeks before we get any hands on info?

I’m guessing unboxing and hands on impressions next week followed by reviews in 2 weeks

This is what’s called a paper launch in the tech industry. No one is getting an XDR iPad Pro till July in any significant numbers. We may get a few Youtubers show off a XDR iPad Pro in a puff piece. In June maybe.

I for one am glad my unit ships in July. I’m on this ice about it and if WWDC does show off BigSur running on the M1 iPad Pro that might be a deal breaker. Because Apple is in full production of the M2 CPU and is on pace to put an M3 in the 2022 iPad Pro.

So yeah its a paper launch and it may end up in our favor because I don’t want an M3 iPad Pro in 11 months after I just bought an M1 iPad Pro.

The reviews will likely hit a few days before official launch, somewhere between May 17th and 19th.

The next iPad will definitely not have the M3 inside. Apple will only upgrade its chips once a year and the MacBook Pro's will be the lucky ones that gets the updates first.

Next iPad Pro (if any, next year) will just have the M2. Or we have to wait 2 years (just like the 2018 Pro) and then we will see the M3 in the iPad Pro.

WWDC is absolutely something im really looking forward to. First time in my life I actually look forward to news on iPadOS. I bought one last week, mine will come 21st-28th. It will be my first upgrade after a day-one buy of the iPad Air 2. 6,5 years later and the thing still works and is up to date.. great value for money if you ask me.

I'm upgrading from Air 2 as well. Super excited also. Folio arrived today and pencil later this week I think.

I'm not quite sure I'll keep the Apple folio as it doesn't cover the edges like the old Apple Case that I have on my Air 2.

But so far I haven't been able to find a minimalist design like the Apple one back then. 🙁

I'm still debating on upgrading as I have the 11" 2020, but since I still owe $595 on it, I'm putting it off. For now...

Realistically, I doubt I will see a huge difference between my 2nd Generation iPad Pro 11" (256GB LTE) and the new 12.9.

How is it a paper launch if a ton of people were able to order a 12.9 and have a May 21st delivery date, myself included?

If you want to see a paper launch, go look at the 3080 and 6800XT launches. Those sold out in seconds. I was able to go to Apple.com and be able to select an XDR iPad and have May delivery as far out as a couple hours after the iPad was put up for preorder. Manufacturing is limited, but this is by no means a paper launch at all

Allow me to save you the trouble in waiting.

Here is what the reviews will show:

A huge increase in synthetic benchmarks, 50% maybe 60% performance increase in synthetics over 2018/2020 models.

Real world performance, (ie, render times of 3D models, 4K video, etc.) roughly 15% to 20% faster than the 2018/2020 models.

12.9" screen is "GORGEOUS" but "gets hotter than the previous panels".

Everything else is iPad Pro, it's the same as it's been since the 2018 model.

MaxTech will sh*t his pants trying to justify his endless prerelease videos proclaiming this historic in generational revision.

Everyone else, (think MKBHD) will say "Yeah, it's amazing that the M1 is now inside the iPad Pro, but it's still just iPadOS and the speed increase isn't important given the performance of the 2018/2020 models and software limitations."

Average verdict: "No need to upgrade from 2020 unless Apple has something up their sleeve at WWDC, or unless you just need to have the newest tech."

That'll do it.

Recently I have stopped watching youtubers. Most of them are misleading, lying tricksters that want your click.
Those thumbnails are insane - everyone is doing the same crap over and over. Its disgusting.
MBK seems to be one of the few professional ones but he is often not that critical. I like him though.

Renne - I used to like him but recently he puts out clickbaits and his thumbnails are awful. Its like he goes to mental hospital and pantomimes patience when taking those pictures. So awful.

So, I will probably wait for MBK and then will read up a little but the times when I watched more youtube is pretty much gone. Same goes for Tesla - its just floods of crap and so little info.

I find forums or good tech sites the most valuable these days.

I have the original iPad Pro. Will I notice improvements with everyday usage? I'm finally upgrading because my battery is giving up the ghost.

lol... very very good point. I for one am excited to see the very first "I feel betrayed." video... with a two week follow up claiming how the "iPad Pro saved my marriage!!!"

I will be very surprised if we see another iPad Pro refresh now before late 2022 early 2023, especially with the chip shortage.

I doubt this is a paper launch, I think too much weight is added to the M1 being in this iPad… M1 is just an A14X with a new name… the A12Z was basically the M0, it’s just a new naming scheme for what is a essentially a chip we have been using for years in the iPad, it’s just now it’s at the point where it’s powerful enough to throw in the Mac line.

To be 100% clear here I am only 'guestimating' review talking points, some of the benchmark data I suggest comes from already known M1 capability shown in other reviews. But I could easily be WAY off on my thoughts.

As for will you feel it from the original iPad Pro? Thats hard to tell as I've owned every generation iPad Pro (M1 on preorder) and I've never really felt a big difference between any of them, but that isn't due to lack of improvements, rather a testimonial to Apples refined software platform.

That all in mind, I think regardless to whatever perceived performance gain there is to be had, you're going to love the new iPad Pro, seriously, it's an iPad Pro only faster than any before it, how could we as consumers not be happy with that?

Thanks for the reply. I actually really like my 1st Gen Pro, but, I figured instead of replacing the battery, I might as well upgrade. I'm not at the enthusiast level like you filthy animals though!

I seriously doubt that. I can't remember the last time when slews of reviewers didn't get the new product several days before launch. Not for an Apple product at least. Maybe not some YouTubers, but the main review sites (like this one) will have release versions within a week or two.
