Where are the new iMacs?

I don't think they see anything being a threat to the low volume specialty line of the imac pro. However, the # of cores is probably limited by various factors as far as what to use in any given year.

i need (to be more accurate, I must...) to replace my 27’ mid 2010 i3 iMac. I thought that Apple will introduce the new models yesterday, but no iMac for me today =[

Yes - 8th and 9th gen chips have been reported to both use the same socket and chipset. Should be fairly easy to offer both 8th gen chips for lower-tier models and 9th gen chips for top-tier models, assuming Intel has enough stock available at launch.

They could offer it, just the BTO options with 9th generation CPUs will have long lead / delivery timelines. I, for one, will wait for it.

depends...i will not buy a i9 if the cooling it is the same as before.
If Apple wants to sell you a more powerful chip it should be more powerful, and you cannot have that with the current imac
imac pro cooling on the way for normal imacs, please

I am right there with you. I have been reading a few of the rumored benchmarks for it and it seems that the i9 and i7 are extremely close in performance (for what I am doing). However, as @fokmik mentioned, if the cooling system is updated it will be hard to not future proof the iMac and just get the i9.

Well I planned to purchase a max spec iMac as soon as they had been updated to last me the next 5 years or so.
In the interim I sold my 2013 MacBooks (Air and Pro) and picked up a 2018 MacBook Pro 13".
The plan was to keep the new MacBook as a mobile machine and use an iMAC at home.
However, as Im sick of the wait, Ive loaded everything onto my MacBook and it all seems to be running fine - including my editing with FCPX. The smaller screen hasn't bothered me at all for my uses so far.

Hence Ive now decided to ditch waiting for, or buying a new iMAC - the delay caused Apple a sale.

Will possibly look for an eGPU and external display in the future if I need it, but for now Im doing just fine.

Im officially out of the 'Waiting for iMAC updates' group!
Maybe next year I'll rethink....but for now, the wait has saved me from spending on something I may not have even needed.....
