where are YOU buying the 2011 iMac from?

I am going to buy a new one in Malaysia in 2 weeks time..............how will I know if it is the latest model. I would hate to buy it on Monday and find out the new model comes out on Wednesday

I checked the spec on the US webpage and also checked the spec on the Malay webpage and they are the same.........except the price is cheaper in Malaysia🙂🙂
BUt saying that, that doesnt mean that Apple will not put out a new one in 2 1/2 weeks time............how do I find out about that $%#$

Well you can subscribe your email to Apple, that way you get early announcement about their new product, including the 2011 iMac

I received their newsletter about new products(most recent is iPad 2), but not the one i needed. I need new iMac, which is a pain to wait for one. And also in Malaysia, you have to wait a bit longer even after they announce it. Always happen with other products too. Give or take 2-3 months after they announce it on US

The stores get the BASE models if you will. iMacs usually come in four base models, two lower end, two higher end.

So two have 21.5 inch screens, and two have 27" inscreens.

The lower ends have i3's and higher ends have i3 - i5's.

The reason they do this is so they can push out iMacs in large quantiities. They could have for example a assembly line pushing out all 21.5 iMacs with i3 Processor with 3.06 and 4 gigs of ram, they don't have to stop and put in user requested parts. Its simple and fast, mass production of one unit.


These base models are pretty much the only models that get sent to retail stores, you CAN get a i7 for example in a iMac, but you have to configure it and it is treated differently at the factory, being fitted with something not sold in the thousands, comparatively.

Its like how you go to any pc manufacture website, and theres a rush model that can be sent out in 24 hours, they mass produce that model, thats why its usually cheaper and faster to ship. No person has to handle and change things.

Ah, thank you for the explanation. Now if only we could get some solid release information and specs...!

I'm in Ireland and will buy using the Apple webstore after the new iMac comes out and has started shipping with Mac OS X Lion.

The screen on my 2007 Core 2 Duo Extreme has yellow bands running across it. The screen on my 2004 G5 iMac is still perfect. Hopefully the screen will be better on the next one.

Regents street apple store london. and the highest spec that is configureable with an additional ext display to match. which if a 30" iMac is on the cards then hopefully there will be a 30" screen to match.
