I bought the MBP through the online Apple Store as refurbished for about $600 off list. It had a new warranty, hasn't missed a beat in well over a year and the only difference was the plain brown box--go refurbished but you have to wait to find the one you want--many come with free upgrades. Thud Driver

I've bought my MBP at an Apple store, my old Mac Mini through eBay (it was actually Buy.com, but this had a live.com discount), and my new Mac Mini through the Apple online store (it was CTO).

Apple store, but bought by Apple employee, friend discount.

Should make things sway better with apple care

If there were refurbs available in Belgium, I would buy one right away .. but there aren't any :<

I guess I will use my edu discount + iPod Touch. That will do for a big reduction.

Happy Online Purchase

I purchased my first Mac just a little over a month ago and went through a lot of research as well. I ended up getting it from springboardstore.com.
They were awesome. Price was right and the customer service was STELLAR. I got free ground shipping and the machine was in my hands in less than a week even though it was an online purchase. I've gotten some peripherals from them now as well and have continued to have amazing experiences.
Also, they give you reward points. I used some of mine on an iphone case recently and ended up getting it almost for free. :)

i bought mine from apple.com the same day the uMBP were announced. Got my 2.5GHZ for $1500 with my student discount. Went to Best Buy the same day and they were $2599 still. Got free shipping and got it in 3 days

I purchased my MacBookPro from Amazon.com last week, my two previous Macs were bought from the online Apple Store so I could get my education discount and because both were BTO.

I may have even purchased one from Mac Mall way back when but don't remember.

I've never had a bad experience. I'd stay with the reputible places though.

definitely use your education discount + free ipod offer if you have the cash.
I bought my :apple:s through the store with education discount. One being a refurb. check out the refurbished MBP, they are always the best deal. And see if you can still get the free ipod offer with the refurb.

The ONLY place I buy, the Apple Refurb Store :D

I agree, the Apple Refurbished online site: http://store.apple.com/us/browse/home/specialdeals/mac

I've bought 2 of the last 17" model iMacs, a Black and a White MacBooks, 15" MacBook Pro (Late 2007) all from Refurb. site.
I purchased my 17" MacBook Pro in Apr. 2008 because I could not wait until they arrived on the Refurb. site. (Saw the first one in September 2008).
Currently looking at the high-end MacBook Air from the Refurbished site to save $250.00

Thanks for all the great tips and advices so far, it's much appreciated!

I have an other question (this is my topic, so I can go a bit offtopic :) ): When I would buy my MBP online, it says on the Benelux site of Apple that it will be shipped in 3 days. What does this exactly mean ? Will I get my MBP in 3 days (would be nice, but unlikely) or will it be sent from the factory to me + the whole trip in 3 days, or ... ?

And when I order online, will I also get the free printer ?

You go to which ever online store your using. Save what you want to purchase in the basket. Give it a few day and you MAY get a call from Apple Sales asking bout the possible purchase, if you make out your having difficulty deciding on the purchase they will offer you something. Generally it won't be anything that actually costs Apple anything. You might AppleCare half price or iWork thrown in.

I bought my first MacBook at Best Buy. I don't have an Apple store within 100 miles, and wanted it now-now-now.

When I bought my new 15" MBP, I did the official koolaid-drinker act of holy worship and bought it directly from Apple online. Shipped fresh from Shanghai, I even tracked it to the point I was pretty sure which FedEx flight it was on.

I got over that, feel better now. My MBP is still cooler than ice-cube underwear, though.

Next time I buy a Mac, it'll be for the house (iMac or Mini), so in all probability, Apple refurb it'll be.

I've owned seven Macs - all but one (my current Macbook came from BestBuy) came from various eBay sellers. I, like Cassie, don't see the need to pay full price (for anything, acutally) when last year's model will suit me just fine. Hence, I usually buy on eBay - and save money. My Macbook, though, was a clearance model - so the same applies, even though it was "new." :D

I only recently replaced my Mini with a white iMac because the Mini's graphics wouldn't cut it (I wanted to run AOE3 and get rid of my last PC). So I sold my Mini first for about $550 with monitor and all, then used that money to buy the iMac. I had planned on a refurb, but I couldn't justify the extra $350.

I made my choice after doing some more research. There is an official Apple Reseller in this city nearby (~10km) from where I live, I can buy a 15" base model MBP for 1550 EUR over there .. this is with the 6% edu discount. But instead of only 1 year of garantee that I get from the online Apple store, with this Apple Reseller I get 2 years of coverage.

How does that sound? :)
