I have an iMac with a 160GB HDD. As my iTunes library increased in size I got concerned. I have it duplicated on my MacBook and put a 500GB drive in the MacBook. However, making that update to the iMac was a bit more complicated. I bought a 500GB external and use it for media files, including iTunes. I haven't noticed any difference is the play, so I consider it a satisfactory upgrade, cheaper and a whole lot easier than install a new HDD in an iMac.:)

I ended up moving my library to my Mac's internal HD.... After staying up late the past few nights cleaning out any duplicates or poor-quality songs...

I still have 70gb free space, so I'll be fine for some time... Much much better response!

On my NAS box running a DAAP server.

Same here.

I keep the library file (so iTunes doesn't revert to the local drive if I try to add music and the share is inaccessible) and music on a share on my WHS, which is duplicated to another drive, and shared out via Firefly.

All of our music is on my PC Desktop computer and then it is streamed to all of the other computers.

So if your on my wireless network you can listen to my music. :D

The problem w/ this setup is that only the computer sharing the iTunes database can use that music to sync w/ an iPod. The best all around way of doing it is w/ a share or a NAS.

How big is your iTunes library? At 1st I kept the library file on my NAS also but the bigger it gets the longer it takes to load iTunes. I've found w/ really large iTunes libraries (100+ gigs of music) it's MUCH faster when loading iTunes to save the library file on the local drive and all the media on the NAS. I'm working on an all 802.11n network (300+ gigs of music) and if I put my library file on the NAS iTunes will take more than 5+ minutes to start.
