Yeah, I tell a lot of people to be careful jumping on the bandwagon, not saying you did but I hear it's going to be a hot Christmas item. You have to do your research first. I personally like the ipad but currently it doesn't fit into my needs. I'm waiting & hoping for a 7" for portability & a front facing camera with that at least it could be used at work.

Similar setup here. The iPad did not provide -any- additional value or use, so I returned it.

Dude, you seem to pop up only to complain about this or that. If you purchased an iPad after reading all of these threads and still come away disappointed then there are serious issues that need looking into. To compare an iPad to a computer then complain because it does not do a one to one match up again speaks to your deductive reasoning. More and more MR is becoming a dumping ground for people with axes to grind.

I have a laptop, an iPhone 4, and an iPad. I've noticed ever since I got my iPad about a month ago, I hardly use my laptop at home anymore, unless I need to do something that I know it has to be done on the laptop. But for general internet browsing, checking emails, etc., the iPad is very convenient to do that for me. :D

I don't have a laptop (yet, I'm saving up for my first MBP). The iPad fits perfectly between my desktop and iPhone, on which I hate browsing because of its small screen

I just purchased an iPad yesterday, but i'm debating returning it. I own a 13" MacBook pro, as well as an iPhone 4 already, and I'm having a hard time finding where the iPad fits into my lifestyle. For instance, when I'm at home I simply grab my laptop to do whatever I need to do, or if it's just quickly checking something I pull out my iPhone. If I'm out of the house, all I really need is my iPhone. I am by no means "dissing" the iPad, I'm just not sure if it fits my lifestyle needs, with already owning a MacBook pro and an iPhone 4. I guess I'm just looking for advice and the real practicality of owning an iPad, with already owning the other two devices. Suggestions or examples of where the iPad fits into other peoples tech collection would be greatly appreciated, especially those with the same setup as me. Thanks.

Hey I haven't read the rest of the posts so not sure if you retruned it yet but I kind of thought the same thing before buying it however I was sold on the interface for the e reader.

I have a 17" MacBook pro which I use for my photography and web design / graphics work. Whenever I'm in my room I use my MacBook pro over my iPad.

I did have a 3GS which i use to use as a phone and for accessing the internet out and about and gaming too. Currently waiting for the white iPhone 4, i do think however that when i do buy the iPhone I will still use my iPad for gaming because it's a bigger display and web browsing is nicer because of bigger display.

My iPad I use for web browsing, emails, i intend on trying to use it as a web editing tool too soon however I don't feel it would ever replace my MacBook pro as main machine. My main use is using the iPad as an e reader! I love the interface its so smooth and also to use my iPad as a memory card for my photography. If i run out of space on my memory card I can back up my photos to the iPad and play them back without messing too much.

There some of my uses but the iPad isn't for everyone, If you don't feel it's worth it for you to keep then return it :)

Whether to get an iPad

I thought a while about this whilst waiting for the iPad to come out. I figured that at £40 per month for an iPhone over a 24 month contract, that's close to the price of an iPad, and I'd already got a phone, although admittedly I only talk to people on it.

So I got an iPad in April and it has been a great purchase. Got a G5 and a mini at home, and use the G5 for syncing, Aperture and Photoshop. But as a means by which to use the web, watch videos with the kids, show mobile me photo albums to folks, listen to music, work on the commute (pages, numbers - and I then send text onto a windows work system fine) the iPad is fantastic. So stick with it for a while, it is a great device with loads of use. I'm writing this from a train on my commute, so it has to be good, as the train is doing 80 mph!
