Thanks for the post....

Comex is out of the jailbreak scene.
Geohot is out of the jailbreak scene.
Ionic is out of the jailbreak scene.

Who is left that can pull this off?

Those who don't really want "name" recognition (or stupid people emailing them asking "when..when...when". Those that expend most of their spare time on the irc and playing around with cutting edge exploits.

PS: ....and yes Capital Planet

I am looking fwd to the jailbreak as well, but wanted to take an informal poll of my fellow JBers...

Do you feel JBing makes your phone lag? Or that only certain apps/features you DL make your phone lag?

In my experience there's no doubt the phone operates much quicker when not jailbroken but I am going back and forth on whether that has more to do with what apps I've dl'd in the past (BiteSMS being a big time culprit).

Pretty sure that question warrants it's own thread (and that the issue has been discussed ad nauseum). Search for it.

Certain apps slow it down, while you can use others (Springtomize) to speed up the animations. JB on its own does not slow the OS down.

no kidding 55,000 is no fortune big or small even more so since hes been doing it for years, there was a lady in Toronto Canada pretending to be homeless and she was pulling in 100,000 a year

55k isn't chump change either. For something that he did in his free time, much of which while he was still a minor, that's pretty good money.

He keeps tweeting about his ********** Scribblenauts game. No one gives a s*** about them.
Jailbreak hacking isn't his full-time job to give spoiled ignorant ****s like you a jailbreak. It's a HOBBY. And he is developing that game for a hobby. I respect that and so should you.

In fact, I hope you're never getting the jailbreak.

1$ is better than 0$ but if your idea or product was used by millions(if thats an accurate number of jailbroken phones) than its chump change with a capital C

That's one way of looking into it. Or if you think of how many hours he spent, he probably made somewhere between $500-1000/hour - again, not chump change.

And yea it's true that millions of people downloaded it - you have to remember that those millions only downloaded it because it was free. Had he charged for it, the number of (non pirated) downloads would be significantly reduced. So ultimately, I doubt there was much potential beyond the amount he made (not to mention, had he sold it rather than given it away, he probably would've had Apple's legal team on his ass). It wouldn't surprise me if selling the jailbreak would've actually resulted in less money in his bank account.

So you know How many hours Comex worked on jailbreakme and his other hacks. According to you comex should be able to go through 600+- mp ok iOS in a day or two. What about the Dev-team should take just a few hours since they are a group of hackers. It also seems to me if it's damn easy there should be lots of would be hackers. Nobody knew who comex was at 1st or Chronic team. If it's that easy lots of people would do it for the fame alone. Such as Ih8sn0w

It's not chump change, it's not also 'awesometastical'. Something we need to remember is that 'free time' is basically all the time when you don't have a job (like he said) and aren't in college (like he also said). I'd probably just go ahead, in my mind, and call it his 'job' :) - thats just me, I think about things in time vs. money since I'm a professional photographer and tour provider. My world, my train of thought! Not saying it's right

Think about it, if he worked 16 hours a day for 4 months on it and got $55k, thats about $25/ hour - not bad, but about 1/6th of my professional hourly fees :)

Not a 'fortune', but def. a very very decent salary.

Btw, why are we talking about if its a 'fortune' or not?

ps - I didn't do any research on these numbers, I have no clue, off hand, how long he worked on it in relationship to when he released what, but I'd assume it was a pretty consuming task - tasks like that eat your day away and you happily work on something for 16 hours. Just food for thought!

I think its probably safe to say, outside of a certain lawsuit, that'd he'd have profited quite a bit more. I'm a very frugal guy and I'd have paid up to $50/ for it - furthermore, I would happily pay for it at a price point around $19.99.

Again, they've got a monopoly on it, and reading through the comments on the Dev Teams blog, I would assume some of them thar' crazy folks would also pay at least that much - there are lots of crazy folks too!

Assuming there are more than 5,000 people like me in the world who would willingly pay for that service, at it's low end, he'd have made roughly double his money ($100k)... and then been sued into non-existence by Apple!

Any one know why we have a jail break for IOS 5 but it doesn't work on the new iPhone 4S. More importantly, when will it come????

By the grammar in the title of this thread, I can see you're not smart enough to work for the jailbreak community. Yet you cry about it not being out for your new phone. These people making the jailbreaks are intelligent, just sit back and wait for it.

There is one difference though... When the i4 came out, there were already talks of the progress of the jailbreak. Right now, we have NOTHING. They say they have 5 exploit but nothing that actually points that a jailbreak is being worked on.
They probably have learned to not say too much so if they have to delay by a few days or a week that people dont get in an uproar...

Well, I wouldn't mind if there are delays, I just would love to hear an assurance on the matter.

I mean, posix has not gotten his 4s either. Although the iPad 2 is the same processor and bootrom, they haven't said anything about it either.

We'll see...

Exactly. I realize they don't want to tip their hat to Apple either about what they're working on, but why can't they just say "we're working on something. be patient."

Makes me think they're not working on anything at all.

I think its a situation of "Damned if you do; Damned if you don't"

Can you imagine, potentially, how much worse the chatter (read: entitlement) would be from the community? It's possible it would just get worse. I think in the long run if people knew it was coming they'd get so much more antsy as time went by and nothing was released.

The JB receivers aren't known for waiting well :)

The JB community as a whole is pretty annoying and I'd probably not want to communicate very much until I had something out either. I know I'm painting in broad strokes here, but hey, that's what the internetz is for, right?

I do share the sentiment that I'd be stoked to know something was coming, but I fall into the camp that thinks it's wisest to keep a low profile when it comes to dealing with all things Jailbreak.
