Costa Rica

Have you considered Costa Rica?
You can fly into Liberia Intl Airport and stay at the Four Seasons in Papagayo... or there are other 5 and 4-star hotels in the area.

I have personally stayed at the Hotel Giardini di Papagayo in that area, and it is just jaw-dropping beautiful. I loved the independent villas, the view, and the service... i would definitely recommend it!!

St. John's is a great island, much less crowded and developed than St. Thomas. There are some cool beach resorts there that aren't outrageous, as I recall. Unbeatable beaches (like Trunk Bay and Cinnamon Bay). BVI would also be nice (Tortola, for example).

That may cost them more than $5000, even if they were Australian.

It is only about AU$1500 for the yacht a week. They could get flights and layover accommodation for say $1500 each that leaves them $500 for food and grog.

Anyway it is a wedding we all know when ever somebody says we have a limit of X amount they really mean X amount * 2.

$500 for food and drink on their honeymoon? I like the idea of backpacking on a honeymoon, but the OP wants a relaxing holiday in the sun......maybe all inclusive (meaning he doesn't want to eat or sleep like a backpacker). ;)

Also, flights are expensive around Christmas time, even in January.

I don't mean to pick on you. What I said applies to some of the other suggestions as well.
