Fix that for ya, Lee. And here I thought you had such great taste in eye candy...

I can't wait to see this movie.

Sorry- I like Johnny Depp too, but Tim Burton sucks. He's ruined a lot of classic stories, and this will probably be no different. Burton can make a film look beautiful, but he's a crappy storyteller. The last good thing he did was Sweeney Todd, and that's because he pretty much stuck to the script.

^ I think Tim Burton deserves a little more credit than that. Look at his imdb profile, some great films in there. I do hope he doesn't muck up Alice in Wonderland though. I'm going to be highly critical of that one because it's a personal favourite. I am prepared to eat my words on this.

Aaaanyway, yes, Spike Jonz! :)

Fantastic review, yellow. :) Now I'm excited to go see it.

I don't think it's appropriate for a 4 year old. It's PG, not G and the wild things are large and scary, plus the subject material is far too much for a child to grasp (IMO). I just don't think a little kid will "get it". There's a dark undercurrent at play here.

But for adults, at least for me an my wife, this movie was incredible. From the cinematography & detailed camera shots to the development of the characters and how it weaves a story that we all "get" but might have forgotten...
We believe that the Wild THings each represent one aspect of a child's emotions & world view:

  • Carol: anger/destruction/violence [the id]
  • KW: love/mother/safety/compassion [the super ego]
  • Judith: sass/confrontation [the id]
  • Alexander: shyness/being ignored
  • Ira: complicity/compromise [the ego]
  • Douglas: truth/honor [the ego]
  • The Bull: sadness/despair/depression
  • The Owls: All things associated with the world of adults

It's incredible.

I couldn't agree with you more. I went to see it last Sat with my 4 year old and she was just meh on it. This was the first book I ever read as a kid and it's something that means a lot to me [from the childhood perspective]. That being said I was pretty keen on how they took a relatively short children's book and made a pretty decent flick. Go see it folks, it's worth it!

Oh- I am quite familiar with Mr. Burton's work. He's someone I always want to succeed, but many times falls flat on his face. He's someone with vast amounts of talent and potential that he only lives up to maybe half the time. It's a damn shame too. His early stuff is the best, especially his short films.
