Well, I just cancelled my Amazon order. I ordered from Apple online instead and I'll have to pay sales tax up front but with free shipping AND delivered by Aug 28. Yay!
Update: Whoa! Now showing prepared for shipment after just 20 minutes! Yippee!

In California, even with Prime @ 1 day shipping it's looking like August 31st. I ordered from Apple, the tax was about $3 but 1 day shipping is $2.99 with Prime...so I guess it balances out.
It also gives me a chance to the the clean migration take place on the weekend while I'm out and about. I've seen from my own and other developers experience that a clean install of 10.6 + data migration rather than a upgrade results in a "snappier" experience. Note that the previous "clean" Leopard install without the clean + data migration was still not as snappy.

Amazon just dropped the price on the single license copy to $24.99 and family pack to $43.99
I already pre-ordered my family pack from Apple yesterday, and even though Amazon is about $5.50 cheaper with tax, I am going to stick with Apple. I want a copy this Friday so I can do a clean install this weekend. Waiting another week will kill me It's an extra money well spent.

It's an extra money well spent.If you ordered directly from Apple, yes. Today is the last day to order from Apple online and receive it on launch day. Of course, you can go to a physical Apple store and pick it up on Friday. Other stores (Fry's, Best Buy, etc) may also have it on their shelves on Friday.
