I got one off ebay as well, probably from the same seller and it works great :)

Hey, I've got a question re: this setup.
So, I assume you put an SSD in place of main drive and HDD in that optibay-like enclosure. How did that affect your machine temperatures? Are you seeing/hearing much less fan spinning?
Also, I am looking to put everything onto an SSD and move my iTunes library and a huge (>100GB) picture library onto an HDD. So, does the HDD _only_ spin when it's being accessed, and then goes idle? Or is it spinning constantly?
Appreciate your answering.

This one the seller said links at 3Gbps and 1.5Gbps. $20 shipped not bad.

I bought this Optibay alternative on eBay and received it within 3 days (NY to NC). I had a chance to put a Samsung 479 series 128GB SSD and install it today in my 2009 MBP 17 and it is a good fit. I can confirm negotiated link speed is 3Gbps. Good price of $20 shipped and much less wait than getting it from Hong Kong or China

So this definitely has a SATA II interface?

In for this answer, I do know that in power settings, you can tell the computer to put the hard disk to sleep, I wonder if it is possible to have two separate settings so the regular drive will sleep/spin down while the SSD remains on.

Yup I just bought this for $20 shipped and received it in 3 business days. Installed it since my previous one was kinda busted and crappy. I did have to pop off the black edge on this to make sure it fit without too much squishing of the little sata connector. But other than that, fits great and solid. 3Gbps, SATA II link speed.

I've also received my china edition optibay and installed it earlier in the week, VERY easy.

128gb SSD in the regular HDD bay
750gb seagate in the optibay..bay

i dont know how to check weather it is 3gmbps or 6 or what ever everyones talking about, but it sure is bloody fast when rendering in FCP.

I was supposed to get a buffalo Drive ($40), however after reading the box, it had no mention of working in OSX. Other brands also had no mention of OSX on the box.

Anyone have any experience with USB dvd drives on macbooks?

i also got the maxupgrades version. i was a little pissed off that it didn't come with any sort of instructions, nor did the website have any information. it didn't take that much to figure out, but comeon...

i will say that it looks identical to the owc one, but it's black. it's also quite a bit heavier than i had anticipated. i thought "optibay" will shave weight off, but it's quite the opposite... the hdd+optibay is way heavier than superdrive.

the maxupgrade "kit" i bought came with all the hardware and tools, and an external usb 9.5mm drive enclosure. i haven't used it to watch movies, but i've used it to install software. works great. the mce optibay comes with an enclosure as well, but the enclosure is meant for a tray drive, so when you install a slot drive, it looks ghetto since they don't provide you a faceplate. the maxupgrade one is slot drive.

i don't work for them... :)

Kind of late to the post party for this question but I'll ask anyways. If anyone else has purchased from this seller know if the drive communicates at 1.5GBs or 3GBs?

Thanks in advance.
Spend a little more money and get this one. If you look closely it has the holes on the side so it'll bolt to the inside of the case, most do not, including newmodeus. I'm not saying the newmodeus is bad because I have one that I'm sending back. I just thought it would attach a little more securely. BTW, they communicate at 3GBs.

Definitely a good looking caddy, one that I had already looked at, however at 30 bucks plus another 30 for shipping (Canada) I might as well get one from OCW or Optibay directly.
