That sounds good. I don’t need screaming high end, just a system that can handle current demands. My 2009 does okay with that, but since it maxes out at 8GB of RAM, it won’t be long before that isn’t sufficient. Heck, Chrome eats 8GB of RAM without even trying.

Staying with Mac is my goal because I never want to go back to Windows. Ever.
If it's a 2009 21" iMac then its maximum memory is 16GB (the 2009 20" iMacs max out at 8GB).

Yep, my mistake. I apparently bought a 20" iMac. For me, the 1.5" doesn't make much of a difference in screen size, but I already miss that extra 8GB of RAM.

Sorry about that folks! This is my first iMac.

No worries. Being it's a 2009 model it's significantly dated and the purchase of a new one is not unreasonable.

Indeed. I took the plunge because I wanted to get away from Microsoft, and I wanted a unibody system. I'm tired of having the whole tower/monitor/speakers/etc combo, and wanted something simpler, more streamlined. I was also intrigued by the idea of getting a Mac, and so I found a used/refurb site that sold older Macs, and this one was quite a bargain as far as I was concerned (I was on a very tight budget!), and even though it's 9 years old already, it works quite well. Right now I'm thinking of the future.
