I'm curious to know about how old the average watch is. I know asking in a forum full of tech enthusiasts will more than likely skew my answers to newer watches, I understand the bias, but I'm still curious to learn!

If you're sticking with an older watch currently, what's keeping you from upgrading?

If you have a newer watch, or maybe even just purchased one of the newest, what influenced your decision to upgrade?

I am considering an upgrade, yet my AW5 is working relatively well for what I want. A larger face would be nice. The most recent update for the 8 doesn't really bring any functions that interest me compared to the 7 . I am interested in actually seeing the Ultra to check out its size and the brightness of the 2000 nit watch face. Battery health is 82% after the recent Watch OS9 upgrade.

I'm in the same boat, I switch between different Series 5 watches daily. I love them, especially my bronzy gold stainless, which is a finish you can't get anymore. I'll be looking at Series 7 watches in another year or two when the used prices are dropping more, but for now, I don't have a problem with my watch.

I have a 6 and will keep it for a while. I went from the 2 to the 6. So I’m probably good until S10.

Still using my Series 5 as there hasn’t been a feature since that was compelling enough to convince me to upgrade (the combination of the larger screen and AOD convinced me to upgrade from the Series 3 to 5 back in the day). I sprung for the Space Black (DLC) SS with the Series 5 so it still looks new and the battery still easily gets me through the day so I’ll be holding out for another year at least. The Ultra does look interesting, but is bigger than what I would want to wear every day and probably overkill for me anyway.

I upgraded to the Ultra from the Series 6.

Part of the reason I upgraded was so I could pass my Series 6 off to my partner so she could use that as her primary, instead of the ageing Series 3 she'd been using (which she inherited from me when I upgraded to the Series 6).

That said, if the Ultra hadn't come out this year, and the Series 8 was the only new Watch in town, I don't think I would have been able to justify the upgrade from the Series 6. Aside from a slightly larger screen and a temperature sensor (which is of very limited utility to me since I don't have cycles or ovulations to track), the Series 8 doesn't really offer anything over the Series 6.

The Ultra is by far my favourite Apple Watch thus far, and I will probably not have any incentive to upgrade from it for at least 4 or 5 years (depending on what Apple does with the platform and how my financial situation shakes out over that time).

I've got a Series 5 which is OK except for the battery, I use a golf app that is now struggling to do the full 18 holes.

Series 5. Maybe I’ll upgrade next year, but so far, I don’t see a whole lot of reason to. There haven’t been many changes since the S5 release, and the processor is still the same as the one in 2020. I also just don’t use my watch that much. I mean, I wear it everyday, but it’s more of a fitness/health/sleep tracker that sits there passively for me. My battery health is down to 85%, so battery is an upgrade motivator along with brighter AOD and more health/fitness features, but it’s still not enough for me yet. I don’t get as antsy and excited for Apple Watch as I do for iPhone, iPad, and Mac upgrades.

Still happy with my Series 6 Edition, though I don't wear it as much now as I've been drawn back into mechanical watches. It's great for when I'm at work though, as my workplace is quite a noisy environment and it ensures I don't miss any calls or important messages when I'm out on the shop floor.

Space Black Stainless was such a perfect watch, it's a shame they moved that to the Hermes line exclusively. I think down the road I'll be buying an Hermes Series 7, SBSS and the larger display are a magnificent combo!

S8 here. I haven't had an Apple Watch since S0, I've been Garmin for the last 5 years, so figured I'd get the most current model when switching back.

I have 3 that I rotate, I had a Series 5 SSS 44mm that I just sold and purchased a Series 7 SSS 45mm, I can’t believe that extra 1mm makes a difference. I also have a Series 5 Space Gray Aluminum 44mm, and my pride and joy, a Series 5 Ceramic 44mm, definitely my favorite watch.

Interesting that as of when I post, the Ultra outnumbers all other responses. That says more about the readership than the usage, probably.

I'm still on an AW6.
I was aware when posting this I'd probably have a substantial sample bias, but it's still interesting seeing people rock all the way back to a Series 4!
