Quote: "Use safari for a week without ever quitting it. By then it's usually using over a gig of real memory even without any pages open. I love safari, but there's no doubt it's a memory hog and it has to have a memory leak or something.":

Safari caches as much as possible in (virual) memory, this has been designed on purpose, thats why you have to 'Empty Cache...' regulary.

I did try Firefox for a while mainly because it has a feature of storing web-passwords, which is missing in Safari. But on my dual-G5 I do have stabilty issues with Firefox, that is why I returned. I expect Safari 3.0 to be the ultimate browser.

huh, u will have to wait for leopard, maybe have to pay $130 to get it... :D

anyway, I thought safari can store password? are u trying to store multiple password at one page?

I'm using the latest nightly of Firefox 2.0 and find it to be better than the rest, in many ways. Shiira is good but incomplete and Safari is okay but I rarely need it since Firefox version 2.0.

I prefer Firefox 2.0. Woman likes Safari better.

me thinks she just likes to contradict me... :D

Seriously, no particular reason for either, just what 'feels' right.

How far down the list could the last Firefox vs Safari thread possibly be?

For the record, Safari is the Mac browser. Firefox is the PC browser.

IE is Satan's browser.

So if new versions are built every day, you would have to update every day? That seems like a lot of hassle for just a web browser.

Edit: Nevermind, I was referring to that Bon Echo thing.

Mine updates automatically. It's not a hassle at all.

I recently switched from PC to Mac and I've found that Camino works very well for me. For the most part, familiarization with mozilla products is the reason why I use it. When using a PC, I use Firefox and I think it's a pretty good web browser and definitely better than IE. At work, I'm forced to use IE because they don't allow any other web browsers. If you try to download or use a different browser, they shut off your port and send a "nice" note to your supervisor. I tried Safari for a bit but didn't care too much for the setup. I'm sure it's because I've used IE for many years and it's not familiar to me. Hopefully, I can shake the Windows disease...:D

There is also pimipmysafari.com, which is where, I presume, the inspiration for that website came from.

Also Preferences > Auto Fill > User name and passwords

Tick that options and Safari will store usernames and passwords.

no, both of these two websites are run by more or less same bunch of ppl, their inspiration maybe come from firefox's extensions.

abut passwords, can safari save multiple passwords for one website? say, if u have two accounts on gmail.com, will safari save both of your usernames/passwords?

Safari, unless it starts acting funny.
I do like Shiira quite a bit, but it feels like a bit of a novelty item.

Firefox for web dev testing, of course I also boot into windows and test IE too. :p

I've used most of the browsers out there and narrowed it down to two Firefox and Safari. I used to think Firefox was a hair better because of all the add-ons and extensions but then I found that I don't really use most of them.

So for fast page load times and zero crashes I have to go with Safari.

The only small gripe I have with Safari is their tabbed browsing, I wish they had a sidebar option like Firefox and better options when opening new links in new tabs.

I've always preferred Safari, and after seeing a website that demonstrates how badly Firefox screws up colours, I'm definitely sticking with Safari :D

Maybe try to run Firefox from a usb key with a changed user agent, so it looks like IE? :D

But I wouldn't as admins don't like getting bypassed. It's for a reason. Maybe you can ask them why they don't like Firefox.

The page itself is a bit confusing, so ignore the text and look at the three pictures in the left column. Safari displays them correctly, Firefox doesn't.
oh, yes, its a not-yet standard called colorsync, which is kinda important if u dealing with arts, color things alot.

colorsync is a build-in standard in OSX, and Apple successfully pushed this to winodws platform too, i think now MS IE also support colorsync.

As for firefox, mozilla has a project page for colorsync http://www.mozilla.org/projects/colorsync/ ,u can also track the bugzilla to check their progress of implementing it at https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=16769

supposedly, firefox 3.0 will support colorsync, im not sure if the recent nightly already support part of it. Mozilla said they are doing it "step bystep", so if color consistency is very important to you, yes, firefox 2.0 will not handle that good enough for u.

Firefox is a winner for me because I love the live bookmarks and tabbed browsing, but once Safari has these features I'll probably switch, although it doesn't work with all websites.

Thank you for that explanation of Apple's 14 year-old color calibration system.

Safari has featured tabbed browsing for almost four years now. Can't say the same for live bookmarking, though.

Safari is much faster than Firefox 2 however I think that Firefox 2 looks much smoother and It can also handle some things that Safari cannot. I use both,.. its never a bad idea to have 2 browsers. Just not ie5 please. :D
