True also, I'm really jealous, bugging FF developers all the time, to add features like :
- "drag tab out to create new window" (FF3 has it now, yet not that polished),
- "hide repeating words/site host IDs on tab titles" (fantastic safari's exclusive!),
- ⌃⌘D - brilliant also (achievable when FF3 will be truly cocoa, not just widgets)

Though even with all this features added, I'll probably will continue to use Safari as auxiliary browser, complimenting my work flow.
Im not sure if those you mentioned are so important to most people, and it should be pointed out that safari provides relatively few features (functions) compare to either firefox, or opera, for whatever it does, there are more it doesn't do.

Also, firefox 3 is truly cocoa, but cocoa != stuff you mentioned above.
how do these compare with regards to pop-ups, malware, and internet security in general. I know most bad things out there are aimed at PC's, but every little bit helps.

as far a security is concerned, firefox 3 is obviously better, since safari has virtually no security measures for users against malicious websites.

Well, clearly I can live without them, as the only PRIMARY browser for me is FF3.
Though I'm trying to streamline my workflow/browsing, using fewer tabs (not 200+, only 100+ ;)))) at once, still I find it quite efficient to see the title of the actual page, not the host it published on - try it, it's quite pleasant, even in the absence of favicons.
Both this & Integration with dictionary, is very OSX'y ;))))

Bottom line : FF is fantastic, super capable stuff, but we still have to catch on with Safari, on this 'just works' plain usability.
(Tell you the secret, not only I envy Safaristi .... I almost :) contemplate switching to Safari, along the logic with MBA : Sensible Sufficiency :p:D:apple:)

It is really complicated matter, as I can find only limited bits of info on this.
But so far it seems, that latest (experimental) build of FF3 on cocoa, is dated Sept. 21, 2006.

And all news buzz on cocoa firefox is mostly of 2006 also.
Since then, the only mentions of cocoa in firefox, coincide with widgets (basically the way active elements on the page look like).
All in all I've been unable to find definitive info on cocoa use by mozilla.
(And you could imagine there would be some, if that was the case)

I'm no arguing that FF has obvious advantages .... but in order to be truly better, it has to advance not only in 'security measures' .... but in UI/User Interactions also.

Yes Safari has fewer features, but that is the feature in itself, even virtue for many. God forbid this for FF ;)))) But, as we see a lot of things seemingly derived from Safari (or even IE ;)) we should look forward to get few more, so at that, push developers to adopt them sooner.

For pop-ups, web banners & other advertisements,

Adblock=Firefox
Safariblock=Safari

Both do the same thing.

No man, you can convince your grandma with that probably ;))))

It's just like saying : Macs & PCs "Both do the same thing".
While technically it might be true ... from some standpoints,
But you'll meet great trouble trying to convince people here :D:D:D

:) read here. http://boomswaggerboom.wordpress.com/2008/06/10/firefox-3-for-mac-os-x-under-the-hood/

It is cocoa. Mozilla developers wrote a series of behind the scene stuff when firefox 3 was out. This is one of them

As everyone else has said, try them for yourself.

I prefer Safari myself. It is fast and integrates the best with the OS. I use firefox for things that Safari can't do. The thing that holds me back from using firefox is that it still feels like a PC program to me even with its mac look...

I liked the way that Safari looks, but I liked Firefox's expandability.

The solution? Firefox 3 with a Safari skin. :D

Just my two cents, though. Go with what flows best with yourself.

Just switched from wireless to ethernet. Speed is probably my most important criteria, and Safari 3.1.2 loads pages up to 45% faster than Firefox 2.0.0.16.

I use Firefox at home, and Opera at work (the alternative at work is IE 6 :eek:)
The best thing to do, as Clevin said, is to try them out for yourself. I like Safari but I've got used to many extensions on Firefox that I can't do without. Safari is cool, though
