Get something with all wheel drive if you're living in New England.

I would not get the G35 unless you get the G35x, RWD absolutley sucks in bad weather.

What I would look at is a 2004-2006 BMW 330xi, personally. If you can't stand BMW's, I would look for an Audi S4, now that's a car...

I would say G35 or S80.

I've always liked the G35, I think the older generation looked better but the new version has a nicer interior, stronger engine, and still looks pretty good. Infiniti has pretty good reliability, not as good as Lexus or Acura but still higher than the european cars. My cousin has a 2007 G35x and loves it. She also really likes the dealer and they offer her free car washes for life. The car also holds its value quite well. I should say though that my cousins G35x averages 19mpg.

The new S80 I think is a good looking car with a nicer interior. The V8 is also a beast. I've driven a few volvos- S70, S60, and an 05 S80 and they have a nice firm but comfortable ride to them. They also feel very substantial. There is a Volvo dealer about 20 minutes from my house and many people have them, usually more than one and they buy them repeatedly so they must not be too bad to own. I believe volvo is one of the more reliable european brands but they are still expensive to fix and not as reliable as something asian. I would buy a used S80 though because they depreciate too quickly.

The maxima is a nice car with a huge problem that it shares with the Altima. It has a beastly engine but it has front wheel drive and a lot of torque steer. If you can live with it its probably a better deal than the G35. I think you'd be much happier with the sportier Infiniti with RWD or AWD or an AWD S80.

As for the Audis I'd pick the A4 just because I think it would be more fun to drive and it looks better than the A6. All the new style A6's I see are blue for some reason I've noticed and I am not a huge fan of blue cars. But really I just wouldn't buy one because of reliability. As we've concluded in all of the VW discussions on this site, VW/Audi makes nice cars that a fun to drive and own until you get slapped with large and frequent repair bills. You'd be much better off with the Infiniti.

Fuel Consumption:

1. 2008 Volvo S80 (15-16 mpg - city) Premium Unleaded
2. 2007 Infiniti G35 (18-19 mpg - city) Premium Unleaded
3. 2009 Nissan Maxima (19 mpg - city) Premium Unleaded
4. 2007 Audi A6 (18-21 mpg city) Premium Unleaded
5. 2006 Audi A4 (17-24 mpg - city) Premium Unleaded

Questions:
1) AWD or not AWD
2) G35 or G35x
3) No question
4) Quattro or not
5) Quattro or not

Wow- all of you have brought up some great points here!
It really helps me out!

It's still a difficult decision, but I will eventually come up to one! :D

I'd say either the S80 or the A6. The new A6 3.0T is BA, and it gets great fuel economy for it's size. Otherwise get the volvo, they are unbelievable.

However, given today's economy, you'd be better off with a car that doesn't scream "wasting money." I'd get a 2009 Honda Civic EX sedan. :)

And it runs on Regular, as long as you don't beat the piss out of it.

Are any of these vehicles made in the usa or canada?

Yep, the Honda's are. And the Accord is about the same size as his vehicles of choice. He might not want a little Civic. ;)
