I've been kicking around the idea of using another cloud provider, but its hard to move away from onedrive when I'm paying for that as part of my office 365 subscription. That is why do I want to pay for another cloud service that provides the same level of synchronization when I already have a 1TB of storage.

I've had some issues with syncing with OneDrive but I'm hoping over time things will improve.

I realize that this is an old post, but I'm curious what you decided to do? I've always had little problems with OneDrive, but today I spent hours uploading files as a backup and it failed, so I had to do it again and ended up with partial duplicates.

And one thing I'm so sick of is the file name issues. I hate leaving my computer and coming back only to find that several files didn't sync because of some naming convention issue. I don't like having to change naming conventions I've used for years. Plus, it doesn't support tags (which I use lightly).

It's just, I feel bad about paying $100 for Dropbox Pro when I only need about 100GB and OneDrive comes with Office (which I'll always have). I woudln't think twice about paying $5 a month for less Dropbox storage.

I'm using OneDrive, while DropBox is superior in its performance and stability, I just can't bring myself to pay a hundred dollars a year. OneDrive is good enough it seems

@maflynn

That's how I feel. I actually went to the Dropbox Pro site ready to buy, but just couldn't do it. I feel like a wasted $100 since I'm technically paying for 1TB of OneDrive.

An approach I've used in the past is a sparse disk image (sparsebundle). It will normally store the data in bands of 8MB, so when something gets modified on the disk image, it should only update a few 8MB bands in addition to the bands holding the new data.

The disk image should be created with the HFS Journaled format. That format supports all your filenames and tags.

To use the disk image, attach it and copy files to it. Then detach/eject it. Then sync it to the cloud service (or let it sync).

I used this approach with a file server that didn't support metadata on files. A file server is similar to a cloud storage service, the main differences being proximity and protocol.

Dropbox replaced my Documents folder years ago. The absolute best service in my opinion. Paying for 1 TB.

iCloud for all automatic updates between devices, but primarily for pictures. Lost all my photos in the past and I´ll never let that happen again. Paying for 200 GB.

We use the one which offers 24-7 humidity control, free plant watering and offers unlimited storage for water, year round for no cost. The distribution system and networking is breathtaking, the constant automatic upload & download system is unattended and doesn't slow you down one jot (NOT uploading will, but rarely happens.) Also, it provides free virus cleansing and UV protection, amongst almost countless other benefits. I'd send you a link, but you're already a client.

Sometimes downloads are sparse in remote areas with poor bandwidth, however, but they seem to have adapted organic mechanisms to somewhat alleviate these issues.
