does comicglass give you the ability to create folders? from what i can tell it sorts all of the titles alphabetically .. i have a few comics loaded via this app and the scrolling to find a title is slightly annoying. being able to have folders would help with sorting the various arcs also (batman rip, civil war, etc.)

I don't think you can create folders within the app. If you rename a folder of comics to end with .pkg before importing into CG, it will treat it as a folder (as explained earlier in the thread).

So put all the Civil War comics into a folder and rename it CivilWar.pkg and so on...

I've had ComicZeal for over a year now and enjoy it... but after reading this thread, I'm going to try out ComicGlass.

I was also hesitant to do so, but the only adds are when browsing the files, there are none while reading, so it's not too bad. Still, the full version is no brainer if you like the lite

Yup, I was just hoping to still have a good free app. But I will end up buying it. I still think it is one of the best. I am also really digging zen viewer too.

Yes you can easily create folders from within the app. Just have to click the edit button and then the folder icon.

Trickier is figuring out how to change the folder name. To do this, make sure you are NOT in edit mode and then touch and hold on the folder. After a second or 2 it will bring you to a screen where you can change the name and also set a passcode for it (if you so desire).

The one thing I cannot figure out to do in Comicglass is: say I've created a folder called Eternals directly on the 'main' bookshelf and have moved some comics into said folder. I cannot see a way to move the files out of the Eternal folder and back onto the main bookshelf.

You can move from folder to folder no problem, but it doesn't seem possible to move them back to the main bookshelf.

Does anyone know how to do this?

I just tried it. I went into my Archie folder, and chose a comic, I clicked edit->move and and it showed me the list of folders I have.

But what you're actually looking at is the Main, Documents, folder, and the subfolders in it, so when looking at the Move list with the subfolders, just click "Move to this folder", rather than going into one of the subfolders.

I've been using comic glass for a bit since the Bookman thing, and generaly I have to say i like it a lot. You have to figure out how to do what you want with it, but overall I'm liking it.

This thread is pretty large and this might have been asked before, so please bear with me.

Is the a comic book reading app for CBR/CBZ that will allow you to connect directly to your Dropbox/Box/Sugarsync account for direct downloading into the app? Or an app that will allow URL downloading?

Goodreader does both of these and it is really useful.

I know I can download into Goodreader and then import over to say... ComicZeal, but that is an extra step that really isn't need if the right app is out there.

Bookman Pro has Dropbox integration.

But I just use FileBrowser for "Open In" functionality and then hand the file off to whatever comic app (currently I like ComicGlass best). It's an extra step, but FileBrowser is so fast at browsing network drives that it's probably nearly as quick.

If you want the same functionality remotely, use FilesConnect. FilesConnect also does everything GoodReader does (filewise) and more.

Anyone else just use comixology?
I've just got started reading comics on an iPad and selected comixology as it was free. It seems OK. The zoom in on a panel feature works well in many, but not all, comics.

One feature I'd like is a way to pass code lock the app or parent-lock some of the comics. I lend my iPad out to students and obviously they would like to look at the comics, but some of the horror comics I got are definitely not suitable for kids. I'd appreciate recommendations.

i've been using zenviewer for several months but switched to bookman pro yesterday and i'm loving it. i tried comiczeal very briefly about a month ago, not long enough to test-drive all the features, but it's horribly slow at importing files via itunes which pretty much killed it for me.

bookman pro lets you password protect any folder.

I just read 18 pages of posts in this thread and all I have to ask is this:

Can anyone recommend a good comic book reading app for the iPad?

LOL.....so many opinions, I was frankly surprised to not see much of a consensus. I guess I'll just go with the top rated one from one of the review sites.

I think the top two right now are ComicGlass and a new challenger... Smash Comic and Manga Reader.

Smash has a unique feature called "Auto-Zoom" that fits the comic to the width of the screen, and a tap at the bottom will automatically pan down a 1/3 of the page. I like how it still shows the full page view for a second each time you turn a page before zooming in--so you can take in the artistic composition of the layout before reading though panel-by-panel.

Its comic organization, folder creation, and UI are among the easiest I've seen. It also sports native DropBox and wifi support for adding comics. Loving that auto-zoom view, it's a nice change of pace.

Here's a video showing off the features, and the app website.

I posted this in another thread, but wow, higher res comics on Comic Zeal look just gorgeous! I scan my own European Comics at 1200DPI and so far, made do with how Comic Zeal would down-sample the comic to the native resolution, which basically made the text and the graphics look really fuzzy. But owing to the retina display on the new iPad - let me tell you guys, the difference is night and day. It just continually blows me away. Finally I have found the right device for my comic needs, and the right app - Comic Zeal :)

Yeah, all comic apps pretty much do that, I believe, scale the comic files to the iPad display. ComicZeal shouldn't have been looking fuzzy prior to the new iPad retina screen though...

ComicGlass has updated its entire app interface to retina as of yesterday, I believe it's the first comic reader to go fully retina.

Text was kind of fuzzy in ComicZeal prior to the retina update, when fully zoomed out. Now it's just beautifully sharp.

Has anyone found a PDF reader that supports Retina that doesn't show the watermarks in the GIT corp. Marvel/Star Trek DVD comic collection PDFs? ComicZeal uses the iOS PDF reading functionality, so an ugly Marvel watermark is overlaid on the page. GoodReader eliminated the watermark, but right now it doesn't support retina, and the developers seem to ignore Facebook/Twitter queries from customers.

GoodReader has been updated for the new iPad, so it'll be a great option for PDF comics. Alas, it's still stuck in Apple's certification phase right now.
