yanny or laurel

An important note: what you hear from the audio file Cloe Feldman originally posted on Twitter really depends on the playback device. On my home computer hooked up to Creative Labs GigaWorks T40 Series II speakers (they're not cheap!), I can clearly hear both (laurel at the lower frequencies, yanny at the higher frequencies).

Really bizarre, I did this at work and only heard a nasally-voiced "Yanni" over and over. No Laurel whatsoever.

I got home and replayed it, and all I heard was a regular-sounding man's voice saying "Laurel". I could only slightly make out the undertones of Yanni.

On whatever news site it is that let's you use the slider, I can't hear Yanni if I move it to the left, but I can hear both if I move it to the right, and I can hear either at will. With the Youtube posted above, I can hear both at will as well. Very strange.

I only hear Yannie at neutral. I can't even make out Laurel if I wanted to.

Using this site: https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2018/05/16/upshot/audio-clip-yanny-laurel-debate.html, I had to slide to the 3rd leftmost tick before I heard a faint "Laurel"

I love that if i slide all the way to the left I hear Laurel clearly. If i then slide it slightly right (and keep repeating), I keep hearing Laurel for quite a way. Slide all the way to the right and I hear Yannie, move in small increment left and I hear Yannie a lot further :)

At neutral I hear Yannie, incrementing left I hear Yannie almost all the way to the far left. It's fun to try. For me at no point does it sound like it could be either, it's clearly one or the other.

(I've always loved that spinning woman optical illusion, I can actually decide which way she's spinning, as long as I 'change direction' when the two legs are almost at the same point - I just need to think 'behind' or 'in front'.)

I have heard both. Seems to be dependent on the source being used for me. Wether TV, computer, iPad, or iPhone.

What the? Listened this morning and all I could hear was yanny. Now when I listen on the same device all I hear is laurel.

Amazed anyone could hear "yanny" in that. Laurel comes in loud and clear for me.

Yanni all the way. The man is a treasure.

Also, I only heard "Yanni" on the clip, and am now clawing out the rest of my remaining hair because someone actually hears "Laurel" and I, for the life of me, can't.

Tested it out a few times using different computers, headphones and setups. My workstation uses older high-end Rokits though I have new monitors and various control surfaces. Comes out Laurel for us. Yanny and Lauarel are incredibly distinct to us. I suppose I can hear "yanny" if I listen to the edited pitch versions, but it sounds as if it's "yanlaurel."

This will bake your noodle.

Two things BRAINSTORM or GREEN NEEDLE

depending on what you're thinking about you will hear that word/phrase
