Any free MMORPG you suggest?
I play World of Warcraft but it is not free.
Lord of the Rings online. Free to play and a huge amount of content. Star Trek online is another option but hey, Middle Earth is the place to be
Guild Wars 2 no monthly charge but you have to buy the game.
To answer the question, I rarely play any game on OSX. Simetimes Minecraft.
How do they (LOTRO) make their money these days?
Never mind: I see they have premium packages to the tune of $15 a month, plus you have to buy expansions. Is the game playable without premium? How much are you slowed down?
I played the game during beta. I remember the zones being on the smallish size. Is this the game where you could kill with music, the Minstril class?
They have monthly subs as well as an ingame store, and the EPIC quest is open to everyone. You can play completely free by earning store points through deeds and quest completion, but it will be a much slower affair. I bought a lifetime on release, which has turned out to be fantastic value (it was about 18 months or so subs cost at the time).
The starter areas are limited to drive the opening stories, but after that its a completely open area for most of the world with only the odd 'zoning' gaps. i.e. Entering & Leaving Moria, crossing the Anduin etc but in general its a pretty much free roaming game.
Yes, Minstrels use ballads and instruments to raise and lower morale (LoTRO version of hit points )
Guild Wars 2 and Tera are both worthwhile but you'd need to use bootcamp and run them with windows. I think GW2 now has an OSX beta version running.
I haven't tried Elder Scrolls Online yet but that is native to OSX and newly launched as of this year.
Personally I find the grindy MMO experience to be on its last legs I've been much happier with co-op and single player games as of late. Borderlands 2, Deus Ex, Bioshock, Shadowrun, and Skyrim. Hell Skyrim alone when factoring in all the modding possibilities is just too attractive an offering to make the repetition of any MMO endgame look like anything more than a chore.
Guild wars 2 events are pretty fun. The class system is made for people to solo though. The classes dont really play roles. There is no healer job or tanking job. Everyone can heal and tank. This does not mean the classes play the same. because they dont. People try and bend the classes to certain directions like support healers and damage dealers. however the game was never designed that way. So its not really to effective using one class or another for that purpose. People often try the mold the classes to play certain roles because thats the way rpgs have always been. however if you play guild wars to try and do this you wont be happy with the results.
Quite a lot pf people got caught out in the fact they say it can be played solo, I played right through my story solo but the last part of the story was a dungeon run that required at least a party of 6.
Same here. I am loving the new expansion.
Guild wars idea of a group is 6 characters to bumrush a target. no particular class combos or strategies are needed. No one says oh we need a tank and a healer.
